00:00Jessica Simpson makes bold admission about her career.
00:04She didn't hold back.
00:06Jessica Simpson is getting candid about her music career.
00:09People reported on April 25th that the 44-year-old spoke with fellow country singer and collaborator Fancy Haygood on Trailblazers Radio
00:19and opened up about being mad at music after her record label dropped her after the 2008 release of her album Do You Know?
00:27Her sixth album and first country album.
00:31The album debuted at number one on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart and even peaked at fourth place in the Top Album Sales chart.
00:39But despite its success, Simpson's label still ended up dropping her shortly after the album released.
00:45I was mad at music a bit, she recalled.
00:48After being dropped with a number one country album, I was dropped and I just never understood it.
00:53They just said I would never recoup if I didn't give them part of the brand.
00:56But my brand was already successful.
00:59Simpson added that she took a long break after she was dropped and was told that she shouldn't pursue music in the first place
01:06because they thought it would ruin my career just like they thought reality TV would ruin my career and it didn't.
01:14Fifteen years later, Simpson released her new EP Nashville Canyon on March 21st,
01:20which focuses on embracing heartbreak, especially after she separated from her husband, Eric Johnson.
01:27After ten years of marriage in January 2025.
01:31Speaking about her return to music, Simpson explained that,
01:35I feel like there's so many facades that we put up, so many different things.
01:40This time, I know I have three kids and I want to be a good role model to them,
01:44but they know me just the way this music is, which is so nice, she continued,
01:49because my kids have thought that I've been putting out music this whole time,
01:53because I've had writing sessions at my house and I wanted to put music out a long time ago.
01:58I've always wanted to put music out.
02:01It just never felt like the right time, and I'm an intuition gut follower.
02:06She concluded that she felt like she discovered herself in Nashville
02:10as she wrote her first songs and country album there,
02:14and added that I was always so safe there.
