Today, Rupert finds a dog, in Rupert and Punch and Judy.
00:15
There's a little bear that you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.
00:23
Children everywhere, go to love him more and more, he's the number one.
00:30
There's a million stories to be told of the things that he's done.
00:37
And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.
00:44
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.
00:50
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
00:56
Rupert, Rupert, in all of his game.
01:06
Rupert is counting the money from his money box, while Mrs. Bear is mixing the ingredients together for a cake.
01:12
But when she tips up the packet of currants, it's empty.
01:16
Oh, Rupert, be a dear, and go to the village and buy me some more currants, would you?
01:21
All right, Mummy.
01:23
I'm saving up for that kite in the toy shop, but I haven't enough money yet.
01:27
But I can go and look at it, though, on the way.
01:31
Yes, but don't be too long.
01:34
Rupert passes the toy shop on the way to the grocer's.
01:37
I think I'll go in there first, he decides, getting out of the chariot.
01:41
Inside, the shopkeeper is serving someone.
01:46
This is the only set I've got, I'm afraid, he says.
01:50
Well, it's no good without the dog, Toby.
01:53
You can't have Punch and Judy without Toby, says the customer.
01:58
Rupert forgets about the kite he came in to see.
02:01
Sir, are you a Punch and Judy man? he inquires excitedly.
02:05
Can I come and see your show?
02:07
Afraid not.
02:08
I need a new set of puppets, you see, but there's no dog, Toby, here.
02:13
Can't understand it, can't understand it at all, fusses the shopkeeper.
02:17
I'm sure he was here yesterday.
02:20
I'll have to leave it, can't hang about all day.
02:23
And he goes out, while the shopkeeper puts the puppets back in the window.
02:29
Outside, Rupert is staring after the Punch and Judy man when he hears someone crying.
02:35
He looks around.
02:36
But there's nobody about.
02:39
Who can it be?
02:41
It sounds as if it's coming from the window.
02:44
But there's only toys.
02:46
I'm Punch and Judy.
02:49
It can't be.
02:52
Yes, it is.
02:53
It's Judy.
02:54
Rupert hurries back into the shop.
02:58
Yes.
02:58
Did you want something, Rupert?
03:00
Well, I came to look at that kite again, if I may.
03:04
Oh, yes, yes.
03:05
It's in the window.
03:06
I must go and get on with my decorating.
03:08
But you can go and have a look.
03:09
And he disappears into the back of the shop.
03:12
The crying is louder now.
03:15
And when Rupert gets in the window, he finds...
03:18
Wizardy-whiz, what's happening?
03:21
He exclaims.
03:22
For suddenly, he's the same size as Punch and Judy.
03:29
It is Judy crying.
03:31
And Punch is trying to comfort her.
03:33
Um, hello.
03:37
Can I help you?
03:38
Enquires Rupert.
03:40
I wish you could.
03:42
Judy sobs.
03:43
You see, no one will buy us.
03:46
Because we're not a full set.
03:49
A full set?
03:50
What do you mean?
03:52
Well, there's not only us.
03:55
There's the baby, the policeman, the clown.
03:58
And there should be dog Toby, explains Punch.
04:02
But he's run away.
04:03
Oh.
04:04
And now, no one will buy us.
04:07
And we'll be stuck here forever.
04:12
And Judy begins to cry again.
04:14
Perhaps he's gone to the common.
04:16
Or the woods.
04:17
I'll go and have a look.
04:18
He may be lost.
04:20
Oh.
04:21
Oh, thank you.
04:23
Judy begins to feel a bit better.
04:25
As he's searching the common, he sees Gypsy Granny.
04:29
I think I'll ask her if she's seen Toby, he decides.
04:32
Landing beside her caravan.
04:35
No, I've not seen him.
04:37
But if he's a working dog, he'll have gone to find work.
04:41
Oh, I should think he'd go to a puppet theatre, wouldn't you?
04:44
Yes, of course.
04:45
Oh, but I don't know where there is one, Rupert adds sadly.
04:50
Oh, you'll have to go a long way.
04:53
But if you fly in that direction, stop when you come to the rose bush.
04:58
And she turns to go into the caravan.
05:06
Soon he finds the bush and lands his chariot.
05:10
There's a rustling sound.
05:12
And he gets out to have a look round the other side.
05:15
Ah, you've arrived, have you?
05:19
About time, too.
05:20
Oh.
05:22
Were you waiting for me?
05:24
Rupert is surprised.
05:25
Of course I was.
05:26
I've been sent to put up this poster and told to wait until I was picked up.
05:31
Rupert looks up.
05:32
And sees that there is a poster advertising the puppet theatre show.
05:38
Wizardy whiz.
05:39
Gypsy Granny was right.
05:40
Yes, I'll take you back.
05:47
My name's Joe, the man says, clambering into the chariot.
05:52
They speed through the air at a terrific rate.
05:55
Joe knows the way.
05:56
He mustn't be late.
05:58
Nearly there, he tells Rupert.
06:01
Now, down we go.
06:07
Well, there's the theatre, says Joe.
06:10
In you go.
06:11
But I can't go in there.
06:13
I'm too big.
06:14
It's a puppet theatre.
06:16
Oh, don't worry about that.
06:18
Joe hands Rupert a ticket.
06:21
For one performance only, he reads.
06:25
Joe?
06:26
Oh, goodness.
06:28
Oh, wizardy whiz.
06:29
I'm the right size for the theatre now.
06:31
Rupert finds himself among puppets of all sorts and sizes.
06:41
Out of my way, hisses a fairy.
06:43
I'm on next.
06:45
And he goes to talk to a boy hanging upside down.
06:49
Excuse me, but have you seen a dog here, please?
06:54
Yes.
06:54
There's a troop of them somewhere around.
06:56
Try over there.
06:57
Oh, thank you.
07:00
A monkey bounds past.
07:01
Where's Daisy?
07:03
It screeches.
07:04
Where on next?
07:05
Daisy!
07:06
A funny horse comes plodding up, and the monkey jumps onto its back.
07:11
Cheer up!
07:13
I want it.
07:14
No, it's mine.
07:15
Give it to me.
07:16
Oh, the three little pigs.
07:18
Um, excuse me.
07:20
Help!
07:21
Oh, ee!
07:22
They cry.
07:23
Oh, we thought you were the wolf.
07:26
They stop quarrelling over their cake.
07:29
No, I'm only a little bear.
07:32
Look, why don't you cut the cake into three?
07:34
Then you could each have a piece.
07:36
Oh, yes!
07:38
That's a good idea!
07:40
Could you tell me, please, where the dog troop is?
07:44
Here's the chief now.
07:46
Rufus, you've got a visitor.
07:50
Can't stop.
07:51
Can't stop long.
07:52
I've got to find all the others.
07:55
Please, have you got a dog called Toby in your troop?
07:58
Yes.
07:59
Black and white, with a ruff round his neck.
08:01
Why?
08:02
Well, he really belongs to Punch and Judy, and I came to take him back, explains Rupert.
08:08
Well, I can find plenty to take his place.
08:11
Come to me for auditions every day, they do.
08:13
Ruff, ruff, here he is now.
08:15
Ruff, ruff, ruff, ruff, and up trots Toby.
08:18
Toby!
08:19
Hello, who are you?
08:21
Rupert tells the little dog about Judy being so unhappy, and the Punch and Judy man wanting
08:26
to buy them.
08:28
So you see, you would be working again, he finishes.
08:32
Yes.
08:33
Well, it's not much fun here, really.
08:35
Well, the French poodles get all the applause.
08:38
I would be one on my own.
08:39
All right, I'll come back.
08:43
As Rupert picks him up, he sees Joe's feet beside him.
08:47
Joe, can you tell me how to get home, please?
08:51
Give me back your ticket, he says.
08:53
As he hands it back, someone is calling.
08:57
Rupert!
08:59
Rupert!
09:00
And it's Judy.
09:03
He's back in the toy shop, and he still has Toby.
09:07
Oh, Rupert, oh, thank you, you've found him.
09:11
Toby jumps joyfully back into Judy's arms.
09:15
I think he's glad to be home, says Punch.
09:18
Yes, and I must go home too.
09:21
Wait, I've got something for you.
09:23
Here you are.
09:24
And Punch gives Rupert a packet of sausages.
09:27
Fresh today, he says.
09:32
Rupert leaves the window, and finds he's the right size once more.
09:37
Toby is back, he tells the shopkeeper.
09:40
Oh, good.
09:41
I'll go and ring the Punch and Judy man right away.
09:46
Rupert looks in the window as he's going back to his chariot.
09:50
Yes, Toby is still there.
09:53
Oh, Rupert, you have been a long time, says Mrs. Bear as he comes into the kitchen.
10:02
Oh, the currants!
10:04
I forgot the currants!
10:06
Oh, well, I had to make a plain cake anyway.
10:09
I couldn't wait.
10:11
Would you like these sausages, though?
10:12
Somebody gave them to me.
10:15
Your friends do give you funny presents, Rupert.
10:18
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone's in his name.
10:39
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
10:45
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
10:55
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
10:56
In all of his games.
11:05
Rupert.
