A tour behind the curtain at a crematorium.
Transcript
00:00This is our crematorium here at Norwood Park. This is where the engine room basically of
00:05Norwood Park is. Here we have the two cremators, the two old major cremators. These are fairly
00:13old machines, they're about 30 years old. These are about to be replaced by a new machine.
00:20Over here we have the area where the casket comes down from the chapel. Over here is an
00:28ash processing machine, an ash processing room and then we have the ash record and
00:35storage room over here. When the casket comes down from the chapel, it's then
00:41transported around to the front of the machine and then the casket's entered into
00:45the machine for cremation. A cremation generally takes around about an hour and a
00:49half for an adult and then once the ashes are removed, they're processed in the
00:57machine. Everything is recorded and then recorded up into the ash room there for
01:02storage. We do have a number of ashes for historical where applicants or family have
01:08not claimed the ashes. We do endeavour to try and contact those families with a
01:13letter program. We obviously try phone calls. We do endeavour to try and contact as
01:18many families as we can historically from the historical ashes. We do have a letter
01:22program now which is very effective in contacting families. We don't seem to have
01:28this problem any longer but we are still trying to contact these families. So if you
01:33have a loved one out there you're not sure of if they've been cremated at
01:36Norwood Park or you're not sure where your loved one might be, give us a call
01:40because we might have them here at Norwood.
