00:00Sinners opens with a haunting legend. Throughout history, certain individuals have been born with
00:15a rare gift, the ability to create music so powerful it can pierce the veil between life
00:20and death. These gifted musicians are said to summon spirits from both past and future.
00:25The story transitions to a church in 1930s Mississippi. Sammy is a gifted musician,
00:32but his identity is at odds with his father's spiritual dogma. When his cousins return,
00:38identical twins smoke and stack, both World War I veterans, his world begins to change.
00:45The twins arrive from Chicago flush with cash from criminal dealings, hinting at ties to Al Capone.
00:51They purchase a rundown mill from a racist landowner named Hogwood, planning to transform
00:56it into a juke joint, a sanctuary for blues and dance. As they reunite with Sammy, the bond between
01:03the cousins is evident. The twins urge him to play at their venue, offering him a shot at freedom
01:09through music. Meanwhile, Stack reconnects with his former lover Mary, still haunted by the pain
01:16of his abandonment. Their relationship is strained, Stack had arranged for her to marry a white man
01:22for security, a betrayal Mary never forgave. Smoke, on the other hand, reconnects with his estranged
01:29wife Annie, who practices traditional spiritual medicine. Their relationship, once shattered by the
01:36death of their infant daughter, is both tender and raw. Smoke still loves Annie. He wants them to be
01:43together again and asks her to help him cook for Club Juke. In a seemingly separate thread, we meet
01:49Remick, a mysterious man seeking shelter from an unnamed threat. Taken in by an unsuspecting couple,
01:56Remick is soon revealed to be a vampire. He turns first the husband, then the wife,
02:02setting a supernatural horror into motion. As Club Juke opens, it becomes a beacon for the community,
02:09music pulses, the air is thick with laughter and longing, and the stage lights up with performances
02:14by Sammy and Blue's elder Delta Slim. But the music doesn't just draw human crowds, it attracts
02:21Remick and his growing brood. Denied entry by Cornbread, the doorman, Remick manipulates Mary to
02:28step outside. She is bitten and turned. In turn, she seduces Stack and kills him, making him a vampire too.
02:36Smoke discovers Stack's body and is devastated. He shoots Mary several times, but she gets up and
02:44runs away as if nothing happened. Smoke is unable to recover from his brother's death.
02:51The group notices that Cornbread is no longer at his post. Moments later, he reappears, asking Smoke
02:58for permission to come inside, but Smoke refuses. Annie, recognizing the signs, explains the rules,
03:05vampires must be invited in, they fear garlic and holy water, only a stake to the heart can truly kill
03:12them. Suddenly, they hear a sound from the room where Stack was killed, he rises, pleading with
03:18Smoke to open the door. Smoke refuses. Then Stack breaks down the door, and at that moment,
03:25Annie splashes him with holy water. Stack runs outside. Meanwhile, Remick begins turning more patrons
03:33outside the bar. Inside, the survivors realize they're surrounded. Remick reveals his twisted
03:41vision, he sees vampirism as salvation, a path to immortality. He says that Sammy lured them here with
03:48his music, and if they hand him over, he will spare the others. Smoke refuses to give up Sammy.
03:55Remick even warns them that Hogwood, a clansman, is coming to reclaim the land at dawn.
04:00After being refused, he threatens Grace's daughter unless they're invited in.
04:06Desperate to save her child, Grace allows Remick's vampires inside. Chaos erupts.
04:14Grace is killed. Annie is bitten by Stack. Before she turns, she begs Smoke to honor his promise
04:21and end her life, he does so with agonizing grief. In the melee, Delta Slim sacrifices himself
04:28to give the others a chance. A fierce fight breaks out between Smoke and Stack, giving Sammy a chance
04:35to escape. As Stack tries one last time to bite his brother, Smoke, armed with a talisman from Annie,
04:42refuses. Sammy is pressed into the nearby lake by Remick. He strikes Remick with his guitar,
04:50and Smoke drives the final stake through his heart. At sunrise, the surviving vampires burn in the light.
04:56Smoke, wounded but victorious, sends Sammy home. Sammy, scarred and carrying a broken guitar,
05:05returns to the church. Soon after, Hogwood and his clansmen arrive to reclaim Club Juke.
05:12Smoke, in one final stand, kills them all but is mortally wounded.
05:16As he dies, he sees Annie and their daughter waiting for him, he takes his daughter in his arms.
05:24In 1992, an older Sammy is now a renowned blues musician. After a performance, he's visited by
05:32Stack and Mary, still vampires. Stack reveals Smoke didn't kill him, he spared him, but made him promise
05:39never to harm Sammy. They offer Sammy immortality. He declines. As they part ways, Sammy reflects that
05:48the night of Club Juke's opening, despite all the horror, was the best night of his life,
05:54the one time he played without fear. Stack agrees, saying it was the last time he saw his
06:00brother and the only time he felt truly free.
