Independent candidate for the seat of Gilmore, Kate Dezarnaulds wants to see a faster transition to renewable energy, affordable housing and greater access to telecommunications for the regions.

00:00From all of the listening that we've been doing to the people in the Yorubadala area,

00:04the three issues that I am hearing loud and clear are that people are very upset about affordability and availability of housing.

00:13People are desperate for the benefits of the energy transition to extend beyond those who can afford to put solar panels

00:20and into the realm of renters, small businesses, community organisations.

00:23And people really want to see access, equity when it comes to healthcare and infrastructure in this region.

00:32So those three things are the things that we're going to work really hard on,

00:35see if we can tackle in the upcoming federal election and onwards and upwards into federal parliament.

00:40Community independence are the best alternative to the broken two-party political system.

00:46We are here to represent people, not party policies,

00:49and I am here for the people of Gilmore and we definitely need a change to our broken two-party system.

00:57When it comes to providing health infrastructure for the regions,

01:00we really need to make sure that people in regional areas have got the access they need when they need it close to home.

01:06And so we really need to be able to see conversations around health equity as front and centre.

01:14The closure of the Batemans Bay Hospital has been locked and loaded by the state government.

01:18We need for people of Batemans Bay to be comfortable and confident with their access to health services.

01:23But I'm worried that a state issue is taking up so much of the attention at a federal government election.

01:29We need to be talking about federal issues at a federal election.
