00:00That is their new one, Never Say Never, and we've got them on the phone right now.
00:05She is from Baskin, Louisiana, where everyone knows everyone, literally, because there's population 239.
00:11She just wrapped up the Back of the Saddle Tour with Jason Aldean.
00:14She got her first number one earlier this year with Things A Man Ought to Know.
00:18And he is from Bronwood, Georgia.
00:20He was a marketing major at Georgia Southern University.
00:23He and Luke Bryan are fellow Sigma Chi frat brothers.
00:26He's written songs like Roller Coaster for Luke Bryan.
00:28Give me some of that for Thomas Rhett, FGL's This Is How We Roll.
00:32They now have a song together called Never Say Never.
00:34Ladies and gentlemen, Cole Swindell and Lainey Wilson.
00:36What an intro.
00:38Can you send us that if you recorded that so we can use that?
00:42Absolutely.
00:42You can use that anytime you'd like.
00:45Cole Swindell, Lainey Wilson on the phone right now.
00:47Cole, Lainey, how are you guys doing?
00:49We are great.
00:50We are excited about this song, I'll tell you that.
00:52Oh, man, just can't stop smiling, man.
00:54I appreciate all of you and just the support so far is just blowing our minds.
00:59Yep.
00:59Well, I think it's a great collaboration.
01:00I'm telling you what, there's been some great duets this year, and this one is right there in that lane.
01:06Because, I don't know, you guys just compliment each other really, really well when it comes to your voices.
01:11Thank you, man.
01:11Yeah, I appreciate that.
01:12I didn't, you know, this is how everything you hoped for.
01:15And just to see the comments and hear comments like that, that people are digging it, and us singing together, it's just everything we hope for.
01:24Now, Cole, what were you going to do if, when you asked Lainey to be on the song, she said no?
01:29Move back to Braunwood, Georgia.
01:32Move back to Braunwood, Georgia.
01:33Oh, my God.
01:34He's on, too.
01:36But, you know, I'm dead serious.
01:38When we wrote this song a couple years ago, I thought it was special, but I knew it had to be a duet.
01:42We wrote it to be a duet, and when you do that, you've got to find somebody special to sing on it.
01:47And, you know, I've been a Lainey fan, and just when her name came up, the timing was everything.
01:53You know, she was getting ready to have her first number one.
01:55I just had a single Saturday night, and I was, you know, we wanted this to be the next single, and I'll let her tell you how it happened.
02:03I sent it to her.
02:03Yeah, so I was actually, I was in Mexico taking a much-needed vacation, the first one I'd taken in a very long time.
02:10I was out there on the beach drinking a pina colada, and I get a text from Cole that said,
02:15I've been sitting on this song for a while.
02:18I think it's super special, and I would love for you to be a part of it.
02:22And, you know, I take a whole lot of pride in my songwriting and stuff.
02:26And then when I saw that the writers were him and two of the best songwriters in Nashville, in both of our opinions,
02:32and I heard the first verse and chorus, and it had nothing to do with a pina colada.
02:38I tell her, I'm glad she had that drink.
02:40We might be not doing this thing.
02:43Oh, my gosh.
02:44I couldn't say yes quick enough.
02:46And, Cole Swindell, let me ask you a question.
02:48I don't know why I called you by both your names right there.
02:50Cole, let me ask you a question.
02:53You said you've been a fan of Lainey for a long time.
02:55What was your first, you know, interaction with Lainey, or even, like, first hearing about her?
02:59What was the first thing you knew about her?
03:01Yeah, I mean, obviously, I'm a huge fan of the things a man ought to know,
03:05but, I mean, other songs on her album, and her album's phenomenal.
03:09Even the title of it, Saying What I'm Thinking, I think that's perfect because that is Lainey for sure.
03:13I'm getting to know her more and more with all this promotion.
03:15She's absolutely hilarious.
03:16And just the first time I met her, that was a few years back.
03:19We were, after the BMI Awards, we were having a little publisher after party,
03:24and somebody said, hey, I want you to meet this girl Lainey Wilson.
03:27And she's awesome, and I think you're going to love her stuff.
03:31And I remember meeting her.
03:33But now, really getting to know her, man, it's just been, it's everything I could have hoped for.
03:38And she nailed it.
03:39This song is what it was meant for her to sing on it, and I'm just glad that it all worked out.
03:43Nice.
03:44I'm telling you again, once again, there's been some awesome duets this year.
03:46I'm just thinking of Jason and Carrie, Dustin and Mackenzie, and now you guys following suit.
03:51It has, this is a great, great song.
03:53And I'm just super pleased to, pleasantly surprised how great it is.
03:57So, I'm pumped about that.
03:58We want to play a game with you real quick, and then we'll let you go.
04:00It's called Never Say Never.
04:02Lana's going to ask Lainey questions.
04:03Cole, I'm going to start with you and ask you questions.
04:05We'll go back and forth.
04:06So, it'll be something like, would you do this?
04:09And you can say, never say never.
04:10Like, maybe you might.
04:11Or, never, I would never do that.
04:13Okay.
04:13Never hurt.
04:14All right.
04:14Here we go.
04:15Cole, would you skydive?
04:17Oh, man.
04:18I ought to say, I'm going to just say never.
04:21I got too much.
04:22We got to promote this song.
04:24All right, Lainey, would you ever wear something, not cut the tags off, and then try to return it?
04:31Never say never.
04:34Love a good deal.
04:35All right.
04:36Cole, here we go.
04:37Love a good deal.
04:38Bleach your hair or just the tips?
04:41Never.
04:41Never.
04:42Yeah, look, if this song goes number one, I dare you to do it.
04:45I don't know.
04:46I already have a mustache right now, so that's about what I'm doing.
04:50Heck, I knew it.
04:52Lainey, would you ever want to be on The Bachelorette?
04:56Never.
04:57All right, all right.
04:58I respect that, by the way.
04:59I respect that.
04:59You're telling me, man.
05:00I'm telling you, Mike.
05:02First of all, Lainey, you don't need it because you're talented and beautiful.
05:05And second of all, please don't do that.
05:08I mean, there was a point in my career where I definitely thought, I mean, should I do it?
05:11No.
05:12There's not a point in your career.
05:15No, not at all.
05:15And finally, would you ever wear one of Lainey's floppy hats on stage?
05:22Maybe, yeah.
05:22This song goes number one.
05:24We've got to figure out how we're going to perform this thing.
05:26So I would say never say never.
05:27All right.
05:28I like it.
05:29All right.
05:29Would you ever change your accent so people would not recognize you?
05:35Never.
05:36Never.
05:36Good.
05:36You own that, girl.
05:37Yeah.
05:39It's not possible.
05:40All right.
05:42I do have a good Valley girl accent.
05:45Well, you saved that for the Bachelorette.
05:48That's just weird.
05:48I don't like that at all.
05:49I don't either.
05:51It makes me feel weird, too.
05:52I like it, yeah.
05:54Cole Swindell, Lainey Wilson.
05:55Never Say Never is the single.
05:56Thank you guys for your time today.
05:58Give it up for them.
05:59Hey, y'all.
05:59We had fun.
06:01I appreciate it.
