Report clip on Mike Tyson's team and their relationship with the media.
Transcript
00:00Mike Tyson and Don King have been making headlines.
00:02Most of the press has been negative.
00:04Rumors continue about Tyson's training habits and his relationship with King.
00:08Team Tyson denies the accusations by the media.
00:11They believe they are being persecuted by the press and they want it to stop.
00:24They claim Mike Tyson has lost his fury.
00:30That he is a ticking bomb.
00:35And he has lost his fire.
00:41Oh, the right hand.
00:43I don't know if he'll be able to get up from this.
00:48It's just a matter of time.
00:49He's got it with a big tool hand right.
00:54Why do they say that Tyson, former street kid turned heavyweight champion,
00:58has turned back into a street kid, or maybe something worse?
01:14Believe it or not, Mike is human.
01:16He's going to basically be able to do what he wants to do, you know what I mean, be independent.
01:25I mean, also, you know what I mean, be financially independent where he doesn't have to, you know what I mean,
01:30go through the hardship that I did.
01:32That's why I take the punches and train for either and after.
01:34Criticism continues to mount against the former champion.
01:43Dean Tyson believes the media refuses to report the real story.
01:48Those people who write most of those articles that the public see does an injustice to those people.
01:57Because their real agenda of the major sports writers, boxing writers in this country,
02:03have their own agenda about what kind of message they want to get across.
02:07It's not the truth.
02:08And it's an injustice to the fans, to the American people who don't know no better,
02:13only know what they read.
02:15They claim Tyson is shielded by his tiny band of mercenaries
02:20and question the loyalty of his management team.
02:26We're pretty focused.
02:27You know, we keep everything in the proper perspective.
02:29You know, we do what we have to do,
02:31everything we have to do leading up into the fight.
02:34We carry ourselves in a professional manner.
02:36And we take it serious.
02:38It's our life.
02:39It's our job.
02:39It's our livelihood.
02:40So, you know, everything is riding on Mike.
02:43So we have to do everything we can to prepare him to go in the ring.
02:46Once he gets in the ring, he's on his own and he can handle it from there.
02:49The most damaging accusations center on Tyson's friendship with Don King.
02:57Charging the fighter hurled a toaster at King and later slapped him.
03:02Tyson and King is fighting.
03:04Tyson throwed a toaster at King.
03:06Tyson did this.
03:07Tyson did that.
03:08I'll be in New York, don't even be here,
03:09and I'm going through all these fracases because that's thickness of the imagination.
03:13They will print without recourse or without asking us what our side is,
03:18anything that would be detrimental to us.
03:21But they will not even print what is right when we tell it to them.
03:26And they know it's right, they'll let it go.
03:28But as you can see, one picture beats a thousand words.
03:31We love each other.
03:32It's unfortunate that y'all don't seem to believe what I say when I say it.
03:37You know what I mean?
03:37I love you, Mike.
03:39You love me, Mike?
03:40I love you.
03:41All right.
03:42Did you see that?
03:43You understand that?
03:45Can you believe your little eyes?
03:47If you're not involved with the media like yourself
03:50and don't understand it like the both of us do,
03:52the people, not being objective, they're able to buy anything
03:56because most of the people, I would say 90% of the people,
04:00believe actually what they see on the television
04:02and what they read in the paper.
04:04So they have no virtue of detecting what's true or not
04:08or what's hype or not.
04:09Whatever they say about him,
04:11whatever they criticize him to be,
04:13he is an urchin from the ghetto,
04:15a guy who came out with nothing.
04:17And now he's become a wealthy, rich man,
04:19but he's a loved man and a respected man
04:22because he did it the way you're supposed to do it,
04:25in the center of the ring.
04:26No pretense, no false affair, no kind of facade
04:31is what you see is what you get.
04:33And in the sport of boxing, that's his field,
04:35he's been superb.
04:36He's second to none.
04:38I want to thank generous of telling you the damn sport.
