Gayle King Hits Back at Haters of Blue Origin Space Mission

Gayle King’s still riding high after that nerve-wracking Blue Origin mission -- but she’s bringing it back down to Earth just a bit to clap back at the haters saying the money could be spent elsewhere.

00:20of let them but i say anybody that is criticizing this and some of them are people i know and like

00:27so i'm a little surprised i say you should go to blue origin and see what they're doing i was one

00:33of those people in the beginning too space why are we spending money on space we have so much to do

00:37here space exploration is not an either or it's a both and and because you're doing something in

00:44space doesn't mean you're taking anything away from what's happening at earth and so once you

00:49educate yourself and you see that and what the team in blue origin is doing what it takes to get that

00:55rocket up and get it down safely with the precision they said the mission was flawless

01:00right that's number one that hurts number two i really resent that people are calling it a ride

01:05we duplicated the trajectory of alan shepard's flight back in the day no one called that a ride a ride

01:12sounds frivolous it sounds insignificant this was a bona fide flight it was a journey right so i don't

01:21like people trying to minimal i don't like people trying to minimalize what was done there that's

01:27that's number number two and number three the thing that most gets me is what is the message that

01:36hey the message that it sends to young women and young girls i've had so many people no exaggeration

01:42reach out to me and say because you did it it makes me think i can do it too oh my young women and

01:50young women and young girls and even some men it makes you think what is possible the more people

01:56that listen everybody's trying i know it's expensive everybody's trying to figure out a way to make it

02:01more affordable yeah the more people that get to do it and every time they go up there every single

02:06time they're learning something two of the women that want are rocket scientists astrophysicists

02:11activists i do yeah yeah we're doing experiments every time you go up there you're learning something

02:16so you know i say have a have you been to space have you seen what blue origin does to get these

02:23machines up get them up and get them down with the precision that they do yeah so i just say you know

02:29i'm sorry there are haters there's always going to be haters but i really think and this and that's

02:34why i'm standing here talking to you because i feel so passionate about it i appreciate you hi harvey what

02:38about these ears are you getting these ears fierce but that's why i feel so careful that's why i feel

02:44so passionately about it because it's been an inspiration we're we're we're not under any

02:49illusion that this one flight is going to change things but what it does is it does open doors

02:53we're the first but my hope is it will not be the last
