00:00Peter Dutton, again keen to talk about housing today, this time a little closer to the city.
00:07We're at some townhouses in the seat of Aston and the suburb of Wonturnah.
00:11This is the other part of the Australian dream Peter Dutton wants to sell young Australians.
00:15Over the last couple of days we've been on the outskirts of Melbourne looking at houses with backyards in new housing estates, urban greenfields.
00:22This time it's townhouses that young Australians can buy off the plan.
00:27Peter Dutton believes that his tax deduction on mortgage interest for first home buyers, which is limited to new homes, can make developments like this more feasible.
00:35We heard from developers who said that if they can sell off the plan they find it easier to get projects off the ground.
00:41With that extra tax incentive Peter Dutton is hoping that first home buyers will be attracted to places like this.
00:48We're going to increase supply, we're also going to make sure, as we said on the weekend and repeated this policy again,
00:55allow young Australians to access their super so that they can get the deposit together.
00:59We're going to stop foreigners from purchasing homes for a two year period so that young Australians don't have to compete in that market with foreigners who are cashed up.
01:10I also want to make sure that we can help young Australians achieve their dream through our tax deductibility policy which we announced at the weekend.
01:21Next, the campaign is headed to Sydney where Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton will meet tonight in the second leaders debate hosted by the ABC in its Parramatta studios.
01:30There are plenty of issues to be canvassed but in a week that's been all about housing it may be those competing visions that take centre stage.
01:37We've got a lot of resources to be able to take centre stage.
01:40We've got a lot of opportunities to be able to do with the neighbours and the neighbours to make sure that they're going to have a better place and that they're not going to be able to manage their dreams.
01:42We've got a lot of opportunities to be able to, but we're going to have a full opportunity for them to take centre stage.
