'Oh My Word': Bernie Sanders Mocks Trump For Trying To Remove CBS' License After Critical Reporting

At a "Fight Oligarchy" rally in Nampa, Idaho on Monday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) spoke about President Trump's lawsuits against media platforms.

00:00Brothers and sisters, it is not just oligarchy we are dealing with right now.

00:05We are dealing with a president who undermines our Constitution every single day.

00:16Who threatens our freedom of speech and assembly and whose agents, as we speak,

00:22are rounding up innocent people off the streets, throwing them into unmarked vans

00:29and taking them to detention centers in this country or elsewhere.

00:38Can you imagine?

00:40I don't know if some of you saw some of these videos.

00:43A woman walks down the street, suddenly a car stops, these guys come in plain clothes,

00:48masks on, throw her into a car and whisk her off someplace.

00:52Happened in Vermont today.

00:59That is what happens in dictatorships, not in democracy.

01:04We're not going to let Trump and his friends get away with that.

01:18And again, I don't care whether you're a conservative or a progressive.

01:22Men and women have fought to defend our democracy and our Constitution.

01:29And we're not going to let Trump destroy that Constitution.

01:39What this guy wants is more and more power.

01:44You know, the guys who wrote the Constitution back in the 1790s were nobody's fools.

01:49And they wrote a Constitution which had a separation of powers.

01:54You all remember reading about that in the fifth grade?

01:57You know, you've got an executive branch, you've got a legislative branch, you've got a judiciary.

02:04And each one of those branches keeps a check on the other one.

02:09And day after day, what Trump is doing is trying to take power away from the Congress.

02:15He's trying to take power away from the judiciary.

02:20And right now, he's going after the media.

02:23I don't know if any of you saw it.

02:24He is now wanting to take away CBS's license because they did a story that criticized him.

02:33Oh, my word, CBS criticized him.

02:42Oh, let's drive them out of business.

02:44How terrible is that?

02:46He has sued ABC.

02:48He has sued Meta.

02:50He has sued the Des Moines Register.

02:53This guy cannot take criticism.

02:56He can dish it out all right, but he can't take it.

03:00And I say to Mr. Trump, if you can't take criticism, get out of the political process.

03:07This is a democracy.

03:08And if you can believe it, he is going after law firms that represented clients who are in opposition to Trump.

03:31And some of these cowardly law firms have caved in.

03:34You know, one might think that the function of a large, multi-billion dollar law firm is to defend the rule of law, not cave in to Donald Trump.

03:52And he is putting pressure on universities as well.

03:56Good news is Harvard University today said, go to hell.

04:00During World War II, when the United States of America and our allies were fighting fascism in the East and in Europe,

04:22400,000 men and women died to defend American freedom.

04:28We take, as Americans, as the longest standing democracy on Earth, as a country that the whole world has historically looked up to.

04:40And they say, we want to be like America.

04:42We love the American Constitution.

04:45We respect their democracy.

04:47We take democracy seriously.

04:49Seriously, we will not allow Trump to undermine our way of life.
