00:00Today, Rupert finds that telephones are not all that they seem, in Rupert and the Daffodil Telephone.

00:30There's a million stories to be told of the things that he's done, and he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.

00:44Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name. Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.

00:58In all of his game.

01:05I'll go, Mummy, Rupert shouts, rushing towards the telephone.

01:11Thank you, Rupert, calls Mrs. Bear.

01:14But when Rupert lifts the receiver, there's no one there.

01:19And Mrs. Bear comes hurrying in.

01:22Oh, Rupert, I thought you said, but Mummy, it's not our telephone, he explains, holding the receiver out to his mother.

01:31Listen.

01:33How peculiar.

01:35Mrs. Bear is surprised.

01:37It seems to be coming from the garden.

01:40I'll go and look, Mummy.

01:42That's strange.

01:44It seems to be coming from over there.

01:49But there's no telephone out here.

01:55Perhaps it's behind this tree.

01:59Or under this bush.

02:02Or among the daffodils.

02:07No, that's silly.

02:09Who ever heard of a phone in a daffodil?

02:16It is one of the daffodils, Rupert cries excitedly.

02:41Replies Mr. Grimnasty at the other end.

02:48It's me, Rupert, replies the astonished little bear.

02:52Well, tell Raggedy to come to the daffodil.

02:57He's not here, says Rupert, surprised.

03:06And he rings off.

03:08Rupert is thunderstruck.

03:10He's never seen or heard a daffodil before.

03:14Oh, Rupert, cries Mrs. Bear reproachfully.

03:19You've picked all the daffodils.

03:21Daddy won't be pleased at all.

03:23Oh, dear.

03:24But it was an accident.

03:25I was looking for the daffodil, you see.

03:26Raggedy is on the common.

03:27And Rupert lands beside him.

03:28Oh, am I glad to see you, cries the little bear.

03:40And he tells Raggedy all about it.

03:42Oh, a telephone call for me from Mr. Grimnasty.

03:46I must ring him back right away, cries the little creature importantly.

03:51But... but... but the flowers...

03:53Don't worry, Rupert.

03:55I'll get you some more, he says as he picks up a daffodil.

03:59Hello, Mr. Grimnasty.

04:01This is Raggedy.

04:04Right away.

04:05And before Rupert has recovered from his astonishment, Raggedy has gone.

04:10Hello, Rupert.

04:11What's the matter?

04:13Asks Bill running up with Edward close behind.

04:17Hello, Edward, says Rupert excitedly.

04:19Mr. Grimnasty's got a telephone.

04:22What's so strange about that?

04:24But this is a daffodil phone, look.

04:27Rupert picks up the daffodil.

04:32Is that you, Raggedy?

04:34No, it's me, Rupert, he giggles, hastily replacing the daffodil.

04:39Trumpety trumps, cries Edward excitedly.

04:47The three friends search the common for each special daffodil phone

04:51to ring Mr. Grimnasty in his underground home.

04:55Ring, ring.

04:56Ring, ring.

04:59First Bill, then Edward, and Rupert Bear.

05:05And Mr. Grimnasty is always there.

05:08Ring, ring.

05:09Ring, ring.

05:10Till the sound of the bell makes him rant and rage.

05:15Just then, Pudgy joins his friends.

05:18Hello, he shouts.

05:20What are you playing?

05:26Mr. Grimnasty's got a telephone, Rupert explains.

05:29It's a daffodil telephone.

05:31Go on, try it.

05:33Hello, says Pudgy.

05:37Who's that? roars Mr. Grimnasty.

05:40Pudgy is so surprised he drops the daffodil phone.

05:43Come on, let's play hide and seek, suggests Pudgy.

05:49I'll be it.

05:51He leans against a tree trunk and starts counting.

05:54One, two, three, four, while the others run off to hide.

06:00Coming.

06:01Pudgy finds Bill behind a bush.

06:05Got you.

06:06Rupert makes it back to base.

06:09But where's Edward?

06:12I can't find him anywhere.

06:14Whale's poor Pudgy collapsing on the ground.

06:17And I'm all puffed out.

06:19Edward.

06:20Edward, you can come out now.

06:23I'm it.

06:25Shhh.

06:26Listen.

06:28That's funny.

06:30It's not like him.

06:31Rupert is worried.

06:33Something must have happened.

06:34We'd better go and look for him and meet back here.

06:37All three go off in different directions.

06:40Rupert decides to take the chariot.

06:46Edward.

06:47Edward.

06:48Help.

06:50Rupert looks down and sees Edward below lying on the ground.

06:56He swoops down and lands beside him.

07:00Edward.

07:01Edward.

07:02He cries anxiously.

07:03What's the matter?

07:04Oh, Rupert.

07:06Moans the poor little elephant.

07:08I fell over and hurt my leg.

07:10And now I can't get up.

07:13Rupert does his best to reassure his poor friend.

07:17Don't worry.

07:18I'll fetch the others.

07:19We'll soon have you home.

07:23But the little elephant is much too heavy for the three of them to lift.

07:27We'll have to get someone to help us.

07:29I know.

07:30Let's ring Mr. Grimnasty.

07:31There's a daffodil over there, suggests Podgy.

07:32Maybe that's one of his daffo-phones.

07:33Mr. Grimnasty isn't answering.

07:34That'll be Rupert playing a joke again, he mutters crossly.

07:36Oh dear, he won't answer, sighs Rupert.

07:38Poor Edward.

07:39Poor Edward groans in pain.

07:40Oh, oh.

07:42I'm sure he's there, says Bill worriedly.

07:43So Rupert tries again.

07:44Oh, drap them, cries Mr. Grimnasty.

07:48He's answered, cries Rupert happily.

07:49And he tells Mr. Grimnasty all about it.

07:51Oh dear, he won't answer, sighs Rupert.

07:55Poor Edward groans in pain.

08:01Keep trying, Rupert.

08:03I'm sure he's there, says Bill worriedly.

08:06So Rupert tries again.

08:08Oh, drap them, cries Mr. Grimnasty.

08:11But he's answered, cries Rupert happily.

08:15And he tells Mr. Grimnasty all about it.

08:18Mr. Grimnasty is there in no time.

08:21You were lucky.

08:22I nearly refused to answer the daffo-phone.

08:25Oh, thank goodness you did.

08:27Please, please, Mr. Grimnasty, help us to get Edward into the chariot.

08:31He must get to the doctor right away.

08:34All right, all right, everything is under control.

08:38Meanwhile, Mr. Bear has arrived home

08:41and is astonished to see his garden full of chrysanthemums.

08:47But poor Mr. Bear is completely bewildered.

08:51For when he left that morning, his garden was full of daffodils.

08:56It was clever of Raggedy to give us chrysanthemums, says Mrs. Bear.

09:01They're very pretty and most unusual.

09:04After all, everybody has daffodils in spring.

09:08And Mr. Bear agrees.

09:11Just then, the telephone rings.

09:14It's all right. It's ours this time, chuckles Mrs. Bear.

09:19Which reminds me, says Mr. Grimnasty.

09:22I don't want you and your friends ringing me up all the time.

09:26No, Rupert promises.

09:28We'll only ring you if it's something important, like Edward.

09:31Mrs. Bear replaces the receiver.

09:34That was Mrs. Trunk, she explains.

09:37Edward has sprained his ankle and will have to rest for a while.

09:41But he should be up in a few days.

09:43Rupert's pleased that his friend is all right.

09:46I'll go and see him after tea, he decides.

09:50You know, says Mrs. Bear thoughtfully,

09:53I think you should dye your daffodils red, Mr. Grimnasty.

09:58Then Rupert and his friends would know which was which.

10:01Mr. Grimnasty thinks that's an excellent idea and hurries off to see to it.

10:05And I think I'll ring Raggedy and thank him, says Mr. Bear.

10:10I like having chrysanthemums in the spring.

10:13And he hurries out to the daffodils, which is now bright red.
