00:00Today, Rupert pays an unplanned visit in Rupert and the Pie Contest.

00:16There's a little bear like you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.

00:23Children everywhere, go to love him more and more, he's the number one.

00:30There's a million stories to be told of the things that he's done.

00:37And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.

00:44Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.

01:03Mrs. Bear is so excited, she doesn't quite know what she's doing.

01:10Oh dear, oh dear, where shall I start?

01:13What's the matter, Mummy?

01:15Mrs. Pig has just rung to say there is a pie contest today at the village hall.

01:21I must go in for that, but I haven't got enough flour or butter.

01:25Oh dear, you are in a fluster, Mummy, laughs Rupert.

01:31I'll go and get them for you.

01:32Oh, thank you. Here's the purse, Rupert.

01:36There's a real French chef coming to judge them, so I must make it especially well.

01:42All right, Mummy, I won't be long. Bye.

01:48Hello, Raggedy, cries Rupert, zooming down towards him.

01:52What's the matter?

01:53Mr. Grimnasty is more miserable than ever this morning.

01:57He said I was making too much noise and told me to come out here.

02:00And I've got nothing to do.

02:03I am sorry. I'll come and see you later.

02:06But I can't stop now. I've got some shopping to do.

02:09There's a pie contest this afternoon, so I've got to be quick.

02:13What's today, cries Raggedy, and he suddenly remembers.

02:20Why, it's Mr. Grimnasty's birthday.

02:24But Rupert is already out of earshot.

02:26Podgy and Bill are in the high street.

02:32Hello, cries Rupert, landing neatly outside the shop.

02:36Can't stop, he says importantly, making towards the door.

02:39Happy birthday, says Raggedy, presenting Mr. Grimnasty with a bunch of flowers.

02:48Thank you. At least you remembered. No one else will.

02:53Let's tell everyone then, and you could have a birthday party.

02:56But Mr. Grimnasty doesn't agree.

02:59What's the use? He growls.

03:02Nobody would want to come.

03:03But Raggedy likes parties, especially birthday parties,

03:09and he's determined that Mr. Grimnasty shall have one.

03:15He looks thoughtfully round his lab.

03:18Now, what would make everyone come?

03:21I'm sure I've got something.

03:24Oh, dratted magnet.

03:28Oh, oh, I know.

03:31If I put this magnetic powder in the pies for the contest,

03:35they will all come then.

03:38Cheer up, Mr. Grimnasty.

03:40You may have a birthday party yet.

03:42Hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee.

03:45Raggedy runs from house to house,

03:47quick as a sneeze, quiet as a mouse,

03:50sprinkling his powder into pies of every sort, type and size.

03:54With a chuckle, a giggle and a grin,

04:01he sprinkles the magnetic powder in,

04:04while the ladies of Nutwood toil with zest,

04:07making pies which are better than their best.

04:15Rupert has been put in charge of the pie delivery

04:18and has been all round Nutwood collecting pies for the contest.

04:23That's the last.

04:25Three, two, one, zero.

04:28They should be arriving any moment now.

04:30Hee, hee, hee, hee, hee.

04:34What's wrong?

04:35Cries Rupert alarmed.

04:37The chariot is out of control.

04:39We're being pulled along.

04:40Oh.

05:12he cries happily,

05:14assuming naturally that they'd come to see him.

05:16And how kind of you to have brought those lovely pies.

05:21Since you've all been so kind, we'll have a nice party.

05:24It is a great honor to be asked to judge the pies, says the French chef, although he's a

05:32little puzzled, for there's not a pie in sight.

05:35We are honored that you have been able to come, says the Lord Mayor, anxiously looking at his watch.

05:42What's happened to the pies, he asks P.C. Growler.

05:46I don't know, sir.

05:47I don't know, Your Worship.

05:48You're a policeman.

05:50You should know.

05:51Go and find out what's happened.

05:54Very well, sir.

05:56But you'll have another cup of tea.

05:59You English are always drinking tea.

06:02I have had five cups already.

06:04Now what are we going to do, cries a bewildered Bill.

06:10What about the pie contest, gasps P.C.

06:13I know, whispers Rupert.

06:16We'll call Willy Wisp.

06:18Willy!

06:20Delighted to see Willy, Rupert hastily explains,

06:23while Mr. Grimnasty is getting everything ready in the next room.

06:28Willy inspects the magnet with interest.

06:30Ah, that's not a bad idea of Raggety's.

06:34I'll have to try this magnetic powder sometime.

06:37But the pie contest, Willy, what shall we do?

06:41Well, says Willy thoughtfully,

06:43the first thing to do is to get Mr. Grimnasty right out of the way.

06:48And Raggety, adds Rupert,

06:50just leave it to me.

06:53I won't be a moment.

06:55My dear fellow, let me have a look at you.

06:59What a mess.

07:01Look, you've got an egg stain on your jacket

07:03and jam on your trousers.

07:05How can you possibly have a birthday party looking like that?

07:10Oh dear, sighs Mr. Grimnasty.

07:13I didn't think of that.

07:15Now why don't you buy yourself a birthday present,

07:19says Willy firmly.

07:20How about a nice new suit,

07:23and we'll get everything ready for you.

07:25Oh, oh, thank you, says Mr. Grimnasty, pleased.

07:30A birthday present to myself.

07:32Why, that's an excellent idea.

07:34I think I'll take Raggety with me to help me choose,

07:37he decides.

07:38Now, what have you got in your pockets?

08:15just as the French chef is drinking his tenth cup of tea,

08:18and the mayor is finishing his fifth speech.

08:31Excellent, says the French chef as he tastes a pie.

08:35He tastes a second.

08:37Superbe.

08:40Terrific.

08:43Delicious.

08:46Oh, marvellous.

08:51Exquisite.

08:59They're all so good.

09:01I shall award them all the first prize.

09:07Mr. Grim Nasty has at last chosen a suit.

09:11He thinks it looks very smart.

09:13Come on, Raggety.

09:16Let's get back to the party, he says happily.

09:20Raggety is a little reluctant to leave.

09:22There are all sorts of exciting things to eat.

09:26But the shop assistant is glad to see them go.

09:29He's not used to customers taking bites out of his chairs.

09:32Rupert is waiting outside.

09:37My, you do look nice.

09:40If you care to take a seat, we have a special surprise for you.

09:45Why, thank you, Rupert, says Mr. Grim Nasty, scrambling aboard.

09:48But, but, but, but, he stutters.

09:54We're flying past my house.

09:57That's part of the surprise.
