00:07specifically Arizona manufacturing. Trump's on and off again rollercoaster is causing
00:12total chaos in Arizona. You know, unlike past, Arizona is not just a sunshine state for retirement.
00:19Now we produce very sophisticated chips for export, electric vehicles for export, batteries,
00:24and more to global markets all over the world. But across the state, I'm hearing from factories
00:29now that are pausing their expansion, which means that means less jobs for Arizona because of this
00:34trade, the chaos. So they have no idea what tomorrow is going to bring. And I mean, this is clearly just
00:40not a way you should run a country. So we're, you know, Trump promised remanufacturing back something
00:45that I would love to see. But right now I'm seeing the exact opposite. So do you think that the
00:50president's, with the president's, the way the president is conducting about creating, implementing
00:55these trade policies is really the best way to promote manufacturing and open opportunities
01:01abroad for our exporters, specifically for Arizona too? Thank you for the question, Senator. I do support
01:08what the president is doing. I think he's been very clear. I also want to distinguish between short-term
01:13and medium and long-term implications. So, you know, the president's been very clear that the past
01:20paradigm is no longer going to work. Foreign countries need to bring down their barriers,
01:26tariffs and non-tariff barriers. That's going to create opportunities for exporters, including
01:30in Arizona. That will take time. That's where I'm distinguishing between the immediate term.
01:35You're going to see more jobs in Arizona as a result of more exporting. Also, in terms of manufacturing,
01:43his policies, he's been very clear it's a priority to re-industrialize the United States.
01:48We already see with TSMC coming to Arizona, that's a very large project.
01:54Again, the president has been prioritizing this. Also, I will mention his deregulatory agenda,
02:01pro-growth agenda also will lead to more jobs, more opportunities for exporters and others.
02:09Well, certainly there's a lot happening, but clarity is not what I'm sensing from the business community
02:13in Arizona, especially over the actions of the last couple of days.
02:16Madam Chair, I also would like to ask for unanimous consent to enter this letter into the record.
02:22I sent this morning with Senator Schiff to the White House, an Office of Government Ethics
02:26demanding investigation into the potential insider trading and corruption ahead of Trump's tariff
02:32pause that happened yesterday.
02:34Without objection.
02:35Thank you. I look forward to getting answers.
02:38You know, Trump laid it out very plainly.
02:40He told people to buy right before announcing the tariff suspension.
02:44So I want to know what he and his people and his friends, his insider friends, were doing
02:48before and then and in between that they were able to grossly profit off this corruption
02:54that's affecting Main Street and the economy.
02:58And specifically, what did he tell people in the White House?
03:00So I hope our letter gets to the bottom of this.
03:03Moving on.
03:05There was an earlier conversation, Mr. Hughes, regarding, apologize, regarding the creation
03:15of a joint task force when it comes to interior and HUD to find more available land.
03:21Right. And something that actually I'd love to see we could work on together, as you know,
03:26or I don't know if you're aware, at least Arizona is still in a very strong, strong housing
03:31crunch. 65 percent of our land is federal land.
03:35A lot of beautiful land.
03:36We want to make sure that we preserve for our generations to go hiking, hunting, fishing,
03:41just to have, you know, have general viewscapes.
03:43But I'm sure that there are some lands that are not in that category.
03:49Some that also, of course, aren't, you know, tribally sensitive to tribal cultures that I
03:54think we could work with, especially with our local municipalities that want to see more
03:59high density housing on the perimeters of their cities.
04:03So one of the things I was hoping to make sure, at least if you, when you engage with the
04:08task force, is that you're engaging with our affected communities, our tribal specifically
04:13and rural areas.
04:15And will it be comments, public comment periods for this?
04:19And will they have a community, will the communities have a say in it?
04:22What we don't want to happen, see happen, is just like a wholesale, you know, in the dark
04:27sale of this land without us having any opportunity to have some input.
04:32And I think you'll have some willing ears in Arizona if we have some good community
04:38engagement.

04:41I know we haven't had time to meet personally yet, but I look forward to soon.
04:45And yes, sir, I will absolutely look into that and would love to work with you on that
04:50issue.
04:50And just in terms of transparency, I mean, that's the thing that we want to highlight.
04:54You're dealing in communities that have largely been left behind, that actually haven't seen
05:00any type of public process in the past, largely because nothing's been happening there.
05:04So a very transparent process about what's going to be potentially developed, sold, is
05:11going to be extremely important to build trust in these communities, too.
