Meta worked 'hand in glove' with China, former executive tells US lawmakers

Sarah Wynn-Williams, a former Facebook employee behind a scathing book about its parent company Meta, alleges to US senators that the social networking giant collaborated with the Chinese government. Meta’s family of apps is currently blocked in China. The company’s communications director told AFP the testimony was "divorced from reality and riddled with false claims."

00:27When Beijing demanded that Facebook delete the account of a prominent Chinese dissident living on American soil, they did it, and then lied to Congress when asked about the incident in a Senate hearing.

00:42They did these things in secret to win favor with Beijing and build an $18 billion business in China.

00:51Meta is very quick to say, don't do anything that can hurt us because you'll let China win.

00:58You know, you'll let China win on AI.

01:05And the whole time, the company that's done the most to help China gain a technological advantage is Meta.
