00:00A gentlelady from Vermont is recognized for one minute.
00:07Mr. Speaker, I rise in strong opposition to the Republican budget.
00:15Let's lay out where we are. Republicans control the House, they control the Senate, they control the White House,
00:20and they could be passing legislation right now to actually lower costs for families.
00:27Grosseries, prescription drugs, housing. But instead, they're attacking the very programs that working people
00:34and middle-class people across this country rely on. They've proposed a budget that gives massive tax cuts
00:41to the wealthiest and to corporations. And how will they pay for it?
00:45They will pay for it by making cuts to Medicaid to the tune of $880 billion,
00:51and deep cuts to SNAP benefits, food assistance to families.
00:57And on top of that, they will add to the deficit.
01:02When I vote against this Republican budget, I'll be thinking of all of the working families back home in Vermont,
01:08thinking of the families who aren't going to be able to drop their kids off at a Head Start program,
01:12thinking about the small businesses who tell me that the Trump on again, off again, global tariffs are crushing them.
01:19I urge my colleagues to reject this reckless budget. I yield back.
01:26I yield back.
