00:00The session's court was told on Tuesday that the death of six-year-old autistic boy, Zain

00:07Rayyan Abdul-Matin, was not a natural one, but classified as suspicious, a homicide until

00:13proven otherwise.

00:15Pasir Gudang Hospital forensic consultant Dr. Rohayu Shahar Adnan testified that before

00:20conducting the post-mortem, a team of medical officers had visited the site where Zain Rayyan's

00:26body was found near a stream behind Block R, Idaman apartment, Damansara Damai.

00:31Dr. Rohayu described the route to the stream as steep and hilly, making it difficult for

00:36a young autistic child to navigate.

00:39She also noted that Zain Rayyan was not known to frequent the stream based on his medical

00:44history.

00:45She said the site visit was essential to determine whether the injuries on the body match the

00:50scene.

00:50Dr. Rohayu, the 27th prosecution witness, was previously attached to the forensic department

00:56at Hospital Sungai Bulo.

00:59She was testifying on the 15th day of the trial of Zain Rayyan's parents, Ismaneera Abdul-Manaf

01:05and Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, who are charged with neglect.

01:09Earlier, during examination-in-chief by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaisul Farida Raja Zaharuddin,

01:16Dr. Rohayu said the post-mortem was carried out at noon on December 7, 2023, after a review

01:23of the child's medical background.

01:26Based on her findings, drowning was ruled out as the cause of death, as the injuries were

01:31inconsistent with the environment.

01:33She pointed to sharp wounds on the arm and cuts on the ears that did not match the stream's

01:38surroundings.

01:40Proceedings before Judge Dr. Sializa Warno will continue on Wednesday.

01:44On June 13 last year, Zaim Ikhwan and Ismaneera, both 30, pleaded not guilty to a charge of

01:52neglecting their son in a manner likely to cause him physical harm.

01:56The offense allegedly occurred between noon on December 5 and 9.55 p.m. on December 6,

02:032023, in PJU Damansara Damai.

02:06They were charged under Section 311A of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum penalty

02:14of 20 years' imprisonment, a 50,000 ringgit fine, or both.

02:19Zain Rayyan was reported missing on December 5.

02:22His body was discovered the next day in a stream near his home.

02:26A post-mortem later revealed injuries to his neck and body, believed to be consistent with

02:31self-defense, prompting suspicions of foul play.
