Durham Prepares for their Royal Visit

All You need to know on the royal visit that will take place on the 17th of April!

00:00King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit Durham on the 17th of April.

00:04They'll be coming here to Durham Cathedral to attend the Royal Mundi Service.

00:08This annual event allows the monarch to express their gratitude to the individuals

00:13who've demonstrated exceptional service within their communities.

00:17During the service 152 recipients of 76 men and women will be presented with specially minted

00:23Mundi money as a token of appreciation. This visit marks the first time the Royal Mundi

00:28Service has been held at Durham Cathedral since 1967. The King's long-standing connections with

00:33Durham include receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Civil Law from Durham University in 1999

00:39and a previous visit in 2018 where he unveiled a plaque at St John's College in memory of his

00:44ancestor Dame Elizabeth Bowes. Members of the public are welcomed together outside the Cathedral

00:50to witness the Royal arrival. However significant access restrictions will be in place around the

00:56city. On the day of the event all roads leading in and out of the city peninsula will be closed

01:01from six in the morning until three in the afternoon. Access to Pallis Green will be restricted

01:06and that'll begin on the evening of the 16th of April. During this time Windy Gap and Duncow Lane

01:11will be closed to pedestrians as well. It's likely that Durham is going to be very busy so it's

01:16advised that those wishing to view the procession from Pallis Green should arrive by 9.30 in the

01:21morning. There'll be event officials guiding people around Durham and all attendees are advised

01:28to adhere to post signage to ensure a smooth and secure experience for everyone. But here's what

01:33some of you think about the Royal visit. I feel like if I was King I'd be scared too, like I feel

01:43like I'd be scared to go anywhere because there's such a big like risk about people like following

01:50you and stuff like that but I've heard that they're like closing off sections of Durham and

01:55stuff which is probably good. Will you be attending it? When is it? I think I'll probably be at work so

02:03I mean I'll be in Durham anyway and I'll probably hear a lot about it but I don't think I'll like

02:10actively go and see you know? Yeah. I think if it was the Queen I'd be like yeah but because it's

02:16a King I don't quite like that. I just like the Queen better but all right. I've got a sort of

02:25positive indifference about the Royal family. I don't really keep up with them that much but I

02:29don't you know hate them like other people do. I mean it's good for them to visit all around the

02:35country like I'm sure everyone here would be you know very happy to see them. No not we'll be here

02:43well we'll not be here no. You think it's good for the community?
