00:00On top of the news, the president was in tow for the BOC's latest and successful operation
00:06in foiling yet another stab to smuggle vape and accessories and products into the country.
00:12But what drew the president's ire even more was the deceitful packaging that recently
00:17wooed kids to get hooked as our Clay Zell Partili reports.
00:21Nearly 3 million pieces of illegal vapes and accessories were confiscated and destroyed
00:32by the Bureau of Customs earlier this morning.
00:42President Ferdinand R. Marquez, Jr. himself led the dismantling of smuggled electronic
00:47cigarettes.
00:48The products are unlicensed, they lack health warnings, and the packaging is designed to
00:54woo and get children hooked.
00:56It's even more worrying because if we look at the packaging, it's really for kids.
01:05That's why their target market is kids.
01:08They want to teach kids how to be addicted to vapes.
01:12According to the Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products Regulation Law, vape products are
01:42sold in the market must have certification, a tax stamp or proof of tax payment, a health
01:48warning.
01:49Most importantly, there must be no flavor descriptors that entice young people to try,
01:55buy, and habitually smoke them.
01:57The destroyed vape products have an estimated value of over P3 billion, seized in 10 separate
02:03operations conducted by the BOC.
02:30President Marquez, Jr. praised the BOC for its successful anti-smuggling operations.
02:35In 2024, the agency seized smuggled vapes products worth P6.6 billion, part of a total
02:42P85 billion in illegal products confiscated by the BOC last year.
