00:14University Malaysia Kelantan lecturer Abu Sufian Yacob said Malaysia needs to expand

00:19its market scope, particularly among ASEAN countries, to reduce the direct impact of

00:24the 24% U.S. tariff.

00:29Malaysia's top trading partners in 2024 were ASEAN, China, the U.S., the European Union

00:35and Taiwan, with China remaining the largest single-nation trading partner for 16 consecutive

00:41years.

00:42Idham Razak of University Technology Mara said a diversified market was key to alleviating

00:49the effects of the U.S. tariff.

00:52He said the government should make use of trade deals, such as the Regional Free Trade

00:56Agreement among ASEAN and its six trading partners, and avoid unilateral protectionist

01:01policies.

01:02Meanwhile, Abu Sufian urged Bank Negara and the Securities Commission to keep an eye on

01:08developments in the capital market to prevent any shocks in the market or sentiment-driven

01:13pressure from investors.

01:15He suggested that more flexible fiscal policies be taken in response to the tariffs.
