Parts work is a way of practicing in therapy that acknowledges that we all have many different parts that make up who we are.
Throughout the course of our lives, we need to learn to adapt to the circumstances of life and survive the challenges that we meet along our path. In order to do this, we develop many different parts that allow to show up in the midst of even the most difficult circumstances.
While these parts were vital in helping us to get through at one point, they can often continue to act in our lives in ways that are no longer helpful, and are out of alignment with the truth of who we are and who we want to be in the world.
In parts work, we get to invite all of these parts forward to get to know them and to build loving and compassionate relationships with them. We become curious about what they want for us, and what they need from us in order to feel safe to allow us to show up in our lives in a different way.
This work is an invitation to welcome all of our parts and to integrate them in a way that is truly aligned with the life we want to live and the relationships we want to have with those around us and, of course, with our own selves.
