British Airways has resumed flights to Kuala Lumpur for the first time in five years, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the connection between Malaysia and the United Kingdom.  Speaking at the event to welcome the inaugural British Airways flight at KL International Airport Terminal 1 on Wednesday (April 2),  Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasised that the airline's return comes at a strategic moment, coinciding with Malaysia's preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026. 00:44This renewed connection from British Airways comes at a tragic time as we prepare for Visit

00:51Malaysia Year 2026.

00:54The Government has set a target of attracting 35.6 million foreign tourists, and air connectivity

01:01is critical to achieving this goal.

01:05British Airways' presence at KLIA will not only facilitate more travel between Europe

01:11and Malaysia, but also enhance our appeal as a transit hub for travellers heading to

01:17other ASEAN destinations.

01:21Beyond tourism, this route also presents opportunities for trade and investment.

01:28With trade agreements like the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific

01:32Partnership in place, we anticipate stronger business engagements between our nations,

01:39fostering closer ties and unlocking new economic opportunities.

01:45The Government is committed to ensuring our airports remain competitive, efficient and

01:49future-ready.

01:50This is why we are modernising KLIA and other key airports to improve efficiency, connectivity

01:59and sustainability.

02:01These efforts align with our National Transport Policy, which prioritises integrated, accessible

02:08and resilient transport systems to support Malaysia's long-term economic growth.
