00:00I think a lot of Americans wonder, why does Greenland matter so much?
00:03Why does the mission of this base matter so much to the American people?
00:07You know, Mark, we need that for international security, not just security, international.
00:12We know that Russia and China and other nations are taking an extraordinary interest
00:18in Arctic passageways and Arctic naval routes.
01:00What is your vision for the potential annexation of Greenland and getting the potential?
01:06Yeah, well, I think it'll happen.
01:09And I'm just thinking, I didn't give it much thought before, but I'm sitting with a man
01:14that could be very instrumental.
01:16You know, Mark, we need that for international security, not just security, international.
01:21We have a lot of our favorite players cruising around the coast, and we have to be careful.
01:28And we'll be talking to you.
01:30It's a very appropriate, really a very appropriate question.
01:32And it's an issue in the high north, so the Arctic, so what you did.
01:35So when it comes to Greenland, yes, we're not joining the U.S.
01:38I would leave that outside for me this discussion, because I don't want to direct NATO in that.
01:43But when it comes to the high north and the Arctic, you are totally right.
01:47The Chinese are now using these routes.
01:49We know that the Russians are rearming.
01:51We know we have a lack of icebreakers.
01:54So the fact that the seven, outside Russia, there are seven Arctic countries working together
01:59on this, under U.S. leadership, is very important to make sure that that region, that that part
02:04of the world stays safe.
02:05And we know things are changing there, and we have to be there.
02:53I think a lot of Americans wonder, why does Greenland matter so much?
03:09Why does the mission of this base matter so much to the American people?
03:13And I learned a lot about that today myself.
03:15Of course, you can read about it in a book, but I saw it up close and personal.
03:18And if, God forbid, to my fellow Americans, if a missile was fired from an enemy country
03:24or an enemy submarine into the United States, it is the people here before us who would
03:29give notice to our brave men and women further south in the United States to let people know
03:35what was coming, and God willing, to try to shoot it down and prepare for it.
03:39That's one of the things that we do at installations like this.
03:43We know that Russia and China and other nations are taking an extraordinary interest
03:48in Arctic passageways, in Arctic naval routes, and indeed, in the minerals of the Arctic
03:54territories.
03:55We need to ensure that America is leading in the Arctic, because we know that if America
03:59doesn't, other nations will fill the gap where we fall behind.
04:04So what you guys do is so critically important.
04:08I think a lot of Americans, certainly I, didn't realize it fully until President Trump started
04:13talking about the importance of our Arctic mission, about building upon it, and ensuring
04:18that America can lead in the Arctic for the next generation.
05:07I don't believe that this is some kind of extravagant talk by the new American administration.
05:16It's nothing like that.
05:18In fact, the United States had such plans back in the 1960s, in the 19th century.
05:27Even then, the American administration considered the possibility of annexing Greenland and
05:33Iceland.
05:35But this idea was not supported by Congress.
06:05Don't miss out.
