00:00Making a splash in style, the Alice Springs Town Pool transformed for a festival celebrating
00:12drag, cabaret and diversity.
00:15Each year it builds and grows and to see the community come out every year, support us,
00:20you know, we have such an incredible time, we always look so well looked after and I
00:24think that's something that's so unique about this festival is that it is very driven by
00:28community.
00:29The four-day Fab Alice event in Central Australia launched in 2019 as a celebration of the critically
00:36acclaimed classic Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
00:40I hereby christen this budget Barbie camper Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
00:46This year the festivities mark the 30th anniversary of the musical comedy, recreating the campervan
00:52scenes central to the film, which was partly shot in Alice Springs.
00:58And in the film, they end up here at Leicester.
01:01Right here where we are.
01:02Because it's such an iconic film in lots of ways, not just for drag queens, but for Australian
01:05films globally, you know, when, you know, kind of put Australian films and the support
01:10that that had, you know, kind of around the world and to be part of that and to perform
01:15here is really special.
01:17The festival has strutted on despite a spate of event cancellations in Central Australia
01:22post COVID, the program continuing to attract visitors from across the country.
01:28My first time here and the vibrancy, the diversity of everything going on, all of the rainbow
01:34communities coming together for this amazing festival, I'm just absolutely wrapped.
01:38The event's success pinned to community support.
01:42This festival combines my two great loves, which is the NT and drag.
01:47A legacy these queens hold close to their hearts.
