00:00-"Breaking news now out of Topeka.
00:02Tensions rise inside the state capital
00:05following basic unit groups' black mass.
00:08Police place their leader in handcuffs there.
00:11Just moments before that, a fight broke out.
00:14We have eyewitness video. Take a look here."
00:16J'acknowledge the past by past, I acknowledge that the past by past, I acknowledge that the past by past,
00:36The president of this satanic grotto punched a protester, it happened after the protester tried to stop him.
00:44The police stepped in then, as you can see, and took Mike Stewart into custody.
00:48KCTV5's Grace Smith joins us now live at 5 from Topeka.
00:51Grace, I know you saw it all happen. Walk us through the day.
00:56Yeah, Carolyn, well I can tell you it all started very peacefully when we got here.
01:00Everyone was out on the lawn here, some were chanting, singing, getting in conversations with each other.
01:06And then within minutes, things quickly took a turn.
01:10Do you want satanists to go away?
01:13Celebrate church for the state!
01:15What started out peaceful.
01:17I just want to share the love of Jesus.
01:19Christians and satanists chanting outside the state capitol.
01:23But things took a turn when this man, Michael Stewart, who is a satanic grotto leader, went into the capitol.
01:29Our cameras followed him inside.
01:31Mr. Walker, how are you, sir?
01:34I'm officially giving you your warning.
01:37You can see an officer greets Michael at the door, saying he is welcome into the statehouse, but if he performs anything, he will be arrested.
01:45I understand, sir. Thank you.
01:46He goes through security. Some Christians and Catholics followed as he headed to the rotunda, where he begins a ritual.
01:53Before the mighty and ineffable breathes the darkness.
01:56The people around him trying to stop him when this young man named Marcus takes the paper out of his hands and things escalate.
02:06He pushed my baby!
02:11Both Michael and Marcus were detained.
02:14Governor Lori Kelly made it very clear when she sent out a statement leading up to the protests,
02:19recognizing everyone has freedom of speech, but that no one can protest or do demonstrations inside.
02:26In a statement sent out on March 12th, she says in part,
02:30It is important to keep the statehouse open and accessible to the public while ensuring all necessary health and safety regulations are enforced.
02:38Therefore, all planned events for March 28th will be moved outdoors to the grounds surrounding the statehouse.
02:44No protests will be allowed inside.
02:47It was just chaos.
02:49Carla DeLago was one of the first people who confronted Michael.
02:52She was with her children, one of which was trampled in the altercation, but is okay.
02:57C'est une injustice. C'est une injustice, c'est vrai.
03:01Parce que nous jouons par les règles ou personne ne joue par les règles.
03:05Il n'y a pas de raison qu'il soit en prison en ce moment.
03:07Maynard Bea is Michael's wife and believes what happened here is hypocrisy.
03:41Grace Smith, KCTV5 News.
03:43Ouais, nous restons informés.
03:44Un jour là-bas dans Topeka, c'est sûr.
03:46Grace, merci.
