00:00Our guest is Alexandre Deschamps. He embodies the sun in music, he writes,
00:09composes and performs songs that address life, as his biography says so well,
00:14passions, people. In short, we are discovering it today, moreover from Argentina,
00:20that we greet. Hello Alexandre. Hello Jonathan. It's a pleasure to have you,
00:24Introduce yourselves to us. I said, artists, authors, composers, performers. Yes,
00:31absolutely. I don't think there's much to add. I write my songs and then I
00:35sing where I can and where there is a listening ear. It's nice. For how many years
00:43now? It's been quite a few years now. I can't really put a figure on it, but my songs,
00:48It's been a good ten years and I also have quite a few cover bands.
00:53So it's been a while now. Yes, absolutely. But right here and now,
00:57I really focused on my songs, on French songs and that's it.
01:01And yes, moreover, precisely styles, musical influences like Jacques Brel,
01:05Léo Ferré, Nougaro. Yes, they are the big ones. I always remember when I was little,
01:10I have always been rocked by these two cultures, French culture, by all these great
01:14gentlemen like Léo Ferré, Jacques Brel obviously, and also by Anglo-Saxon music,
01:19since she was still very present among us, like Pig Floyd, Peter Gabriel,
01:23all these things. And that's it. In any case, after now, what I do,
01:28It's that when I write my songs, I draw a little bit on what moves me and what
01:33in any case brings meaning to what I want to say and to the song.
01:36That's very interesting. I like these artists too. So, precisely,
01:41You have had a very unusual career since the age of 23, including a significant encounter with a jazzman.
01:47Yes, yes, absolutely. I met a guy who played jazz and who had gone to school in Los Angeles.
01:55So when I met him, I said to myself, my God, this is what I want to do. And so there you go,
02:00I started taking classes like one of the courses relentlessly. Then I left for the United States,
02:06in this school to learn music. It was a pretty extraordinary school because, in fact,
02:11There were drum, guitar, bass, singing, and piano lessons. And I took up the guitar.
02:16And there we had people in every class, teachers who had worked with Frank Sinatra. I remember,
02:21It was Karl Schroeder, a pianist who had worked with Frank Sinatra, Sarah Hogan. In my opinion, he is no longer here today,
02:26but it was truly an extraordinary experience in any case.
02:28And then, Alexandre, you also manage to conquer the Belgian public by chaining together concerts more or less
02:34Timinists. And the public appreciates you more and more, by the way.
02:38Yes, absolutely. And we also had a date here, a great date, where there were 500 people.
02:45There were 12 of us musicians, including the chord quartet, percussion, drums, etc. It was truly a magnificent and magical moment.
02:52Oh yeah, I imagine. And then it's true that, as I often say in my interviews too,
02:56artists who are close to their audience, we feel it during the interview.
03:00We know they love it. And then, it creates a very special bond.
03:03Well, yeah, that's life. In fact, if we do this, it's just to connect, nothing else.
03:09It's a little bit of a love connection with people.
03:12And when you can connect like that, there's nothing prettier, nothing more beautiful.
03:16There you go. So, you have styles that are more or less rock, jazz,
03:20psychedelia, text in several languages.
03:23And this becomes your starting point for a more or less scenic adventure,
03:27with everyone around you musically.
03:30Yes, at first I sang a little in all languages.
03:34Now, it's true that I've really refocused on French songs,
03:38since it's my language, obviously.
03:39And then, yes, the musical styles, as I was saying earlier,
03:42I use them a little like a painter would use his color palette.
03:47They are there to serve the words, to serve the purpose.
03:50And there you have it. So, the more colors we have, the more choices we have, I want to say.
03:55So, a very, very beautiful song. The courage to love. Excerpt from Soleil, is that right, Alexandre?
04:02Yes, absolutely. From the album Soleil.
04:05Why did you write this song? So, it's linked to a person you met, loved,
04:10that you still love today?
04:12No, that's not really it. It's much more universal than that.
04:15It's just that in life, you have to, at least in my opinion, have the courage to love.
04:20It can also mean the courage to dare, the courage to go for it and love what we do,
04:25love life, love others.
04:27Everything is born into life, actually. I think that's the ultimate purpose of what we're here for.
04:32It's really about embracing life, but in all its entirety.
04:35I think that's what the song is about, the courage to love.
04:36There you have it, the human, the living, life in general, in fact, it is a certain ode, in a way, to life.
04:43The pleasure you have in loving life, in all its meaning.
04:48Exactly. I wouldn't have included the summary, Jonathan.
04:51So, it's nice to have artists like you, Alexandre, who give us good vibes.
04:55So, tell us about Soleil.
04:57Listen, Soleil, we've been in a pretty gloomy period for a few years now.
05:03And I am an eternal optimist.
05:05I think we're going towards the Sun, precisely.
05:08The fog will lift, will dissipate a little at a time.
05:10And I think there are a lot of great things ahead of us.
05:13Even though people are a little bit panicked with everything they can hear, etc.
05:16I'm madly against that.
05:18In the meantime, there is the saying that man is bad, that man pollutes, that man...
05:21We only hear this sweet music, etc.
05:23I think the man is great and there is a lot to learn from him.
05:26And that, there you go, I am in any case very, very optimistic for the future.
05:30Absolutely.
05:30The Sun is a little bit like that.
05:33An ode, there you have it, to the living and to what we can love in life.
05:36Sun, we all love the Sun, obviously.
05:40Alexandre Deschamps.
05:41So, let's talk about your music videos now.
05:42You've done a few on social media, like The Last Dance,
05:46The Courage to Love, where we see you at the piano.
05:49Or also L'Anathème, a video where you bring together your musicians as well.
05:53Yes, some of the musicians, because the Accorde Quartet is missing.
05:56Besides, the last concert we did, everyone was there.
05:59So it's a real pleasure when everyone is together.
06:01But it's true that there is a part, sometimes, a little more intimate with the Quatture Accorde.
06:05And the other part, a little more rock, a little more funky, a little more pop.
06:10And sometimes we put it all together too.
06:12And there you have it, a pretty nice musical cocktail.
06:16At least, I think so.
06:17That's nice.
06:18And then, we also note The Knight, the other clips, Our Loves, on The Meeting.
06:23And then, also, The House of November.
06:26Yes, The November House is a little more difficult as a theme,
06:30since she is the grandmother of my children, well, the grandmother of my children,
06:35who was 97 years old and who was in a nursing home,
06:38and who, unfortunately, let himself go during the Covid crisis.
06:41So, it was for him...
06:42To pay tribute to him and give him a little testimony.
06:46There you go, it's beautiful, it's beautiful to do that to the people we love.
06:50and who, for the most part, are no longer of this world.
06:53Alexandre Deschamps, now tell us about the concerts.
06:56There are going to be a few.
06:57You are here now, from Argentina, that's it.
07:00And then, you're going to have lots of concerts coming up,
07:01and especially from Chile and Argentina, already last Thursday.
07:06Yes, absolutely.
07:07So there, I had a concert last night, Buenos Aires at the Palacio Libertad,
07:11with a string quartet.
07:13It was the day of presentations for the Francophonie Days in Buenos Aires.
07:17So, wonderful moment.
07:18Then, on March 23, it was in Santiago, Chile.
07:22Then, on March 27, I return to Argentina.
07:25And there it is in Rosario, about 6 hours from Buenos Aires.
07:28On March 29, in Argentina, at the Library Café in Buenos Aires as well.
07:33And also in Buenos Aires, at the Urbana track, on March 30.
07:36Wow! That's it, the whole end of March in Argentina.
07:40That's it, absolutely.
07:41It's really a wonderful moment.
07:43Everyone here is eminently friendly.
07:45This is really cool.
07:47I salute them, they are wonderful.
07:49There you go, filled with sunshine and love too.
07:52And then, after that, will you come back to France for other concerts?
07:55Yes, so when I get back, I'm going straight into a music video on April 12th and 13th.
08:01And then, on to recording new songs.
08:03So, I'm leaving the concerts aside for a bit.
08:06And then, we will also have, in any case, a big date which fell on December 5th
08:10with the 12 musicians at the Raymond de Vos hall in Tourcoing, in the north of France.
08:15And then there we are, we still have to organize the other concerts and the tour.
08:19But I'm trying to frame things a little bit.
08:22Otherwise, it goes off in all directions.
08:23There you go, and then the invitation is extended to Alexandre Deschamps, to perhaps one day pass through Occitania.
08:29Here we are, from the south of France, from East to West, all the way to Lozère.
08:32Why not ?
08:33There are performance halls, which will perhaps one day allow you to discover the Occitan public.
08:38With great pleasure, immense pleasure even.
08:41Perfect. Well, we're back with Alexandre Deschamps, currently in Argentina, until the end of March, with numerous concerts in Buenos Aires, passing through, well, Rosario, or at least Santiago de Chile.
08:53In short, there are really plenty of dates in Argentina.
08:55And then, the upcoming music video, plus other great things to come in April and throughout 2025.
09:02Thank you very much, Alexandre.
09:04Thank you very much, Jonathan. Thank you for your welcome.
09:06It's a real pleasure. A great tour, in any case.
09:09Beautiful sunshine, we wish you.
09:11And then, we obviously wish you all the best this year.
09:14Come on, thank you very much.
09:15So, that was the interview with Alexandre Deschamps, magnificent artist, author, composer, performer.
09:21This is a beautiful piece of music.
09:23We find the courage to love in the front line of fire without measure.
09:26The beauty of Ineptie is in the sun, obviously, this beautiful creation.
09:30See you soon.
