Crews battle Mangerton unit block fire

00:00At around 11 o'clock this morning, crews from Wollongong and Warrawong were alerted to a unit fire here in Mangadan.

00:06Luckily, those firefighters were close and were here within a couple of minutes.

00:11And meaning when they arrived, they did find a fire in a unit on level three of a three-level building.

00:17When the firefighters arrived, they were confronted with flames coming out of that unit and into the stairwell.

00:24And as they were trying to get up the stairwell, people were evacuating the building.

00:28So they almost had almost a dilemma that they had to either try and evacuate or attack the fire.

00:33And luckily, those two first arriving crews were able to do both at the same time.

00:37They could attack the fire and evacuate around 40 people from the building.

00:42Now, that fire was held to one unit.

00:45Unfortunately, there's about another 20 units that have been affected by the smoke or water.

00:49And that will mean probably the occupants of this unit block will need to be temporarily rehoused.
