00:00They have nothing, they have no basic needs and that is what the Abuelas provide.
00:06If nothing else, they have a welcoming face when they get off the bus.
00:10They get here and they don't have anything.
00:28They've been sent off with maybe a couple of sandwiches.
00:32They've been traveling on that bus for three days.
00:35They have many times just the plastic bag from the grocery store with all of their belongings in that bag.
00:43And they're terrified.
00:58We like to give them a nice hot lunch or breakfast and fruit.
01:03And so I was making burritos.
01:06And that's what I do every morning.
01:08They are legally entering the country asking for asylum.
01:13And the treatment that they are receiving is unconscionable.
01:20I just felt like I couldn't just sit back and just read about it.
01:25I needed to do something more.
01:27When we say nothing, they have no socks.
01:31Sometimes they have no shoelaces.
01:33The shoelaces get taken from them when they go through processing.
01:57It's personal.
01:58I feel like it's very personal.
01:59I am a daughter of a man who crossed illegally when he was a young man.
02:06I saw how he had to try to work to arrange his papers.
02:10And so I know.
02:13I kind of know the difficulties of what was happening there.
02:30We are just trying to give them some items to make their trip a little bit more comfortable, even if it's at the end of their trip,
02:36just to make it a little easier for them and try to help them for when they get to where they're going.
