00:00I am determined to make the most of every moment I have left.

00:06After the midterm elections, my advisors asked me,

00:09Mr. President, do you have a bucket list?

00:12And I said, well, I have something that rhymes with bucket list.

00:17Take executive action on immigration.

00:22Bucket.

00:24Bucket list.

00:46I stand here knowing that my story is part of the larger American story,

00:51that I owe a debt to all of those who came before me,

00:54and that in no other country on earth is my story even possible.

01:21I grew up without my father around.

01:33He left when I was two years old.

01:35And even though my sister and I were lucky enough to have a wonderful mom

01:38and caring grandparents to raise us, I felt his absence.

01:42And I wonder what my life would have been like had he been a greater presence.

02:14I've never seen politics as a game.

02:17From the day I decided to become a community organizer on the south side of Chicago

02:22over two decades ago, I've always seen politics as a mission,

02:28as the way we hold this country up to our highest ideals.

02:56I didn't think that it was possible.

02:58But let me tell you, today I love my husband even more than I did four years ago,

03:03even more than I did 23 years ago when we first met.

03:07Let me tell you why.

03:09See, I love that he has never forgotten how he started.

04:15In the shadow of the old state capitol, where Lincoln once called on a house divided

04:21to stand together, where common hopes and common dreams still live,

04:26I stand before you today to announce my candidacy

04:31for president of the United States of America.

05:05I am so relieved that the whole birther thing is over.

05:10Laughter.

05:15I mean, ISIL, North Korea, poverty, climate change,

05:21none of those things weighed on my mind like the validity of my birth certificate.

05:51When Trayvon Martin was first shot, I said that this could have been my son.

05:58Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago.

06:06I think it's important to recognize that the African American community is looking at this issue

06:15through a set of experiences and a history that doesn't go away.

07:38It has been an honor and a privilege to work side by side with you to strengthen our democracy.

07:47And with that, I just have two more words to say.
