Republican lawmakers in several states are pushing to ban critical race theory from being taught in schools.

But few seem to understand the actual point of the decades-old curriculum...
Transcript
00:00Just because I do not want critical race theory taught to my children in school
00:06does not mean that I'm a racist, damn it.
00:10Roughly a dozen Republican states have passed or introduced vague legislation that prohibits
00:14critical race theory or divisive concepts, whatever that means.
00:17There's no room in our classrooms for things like critical race theory. Teaching kids to
00:25hate their country and to hate each other is not worth one red cent of taxpayer money.
00:44Critical race theory espouses that America is an irredeemably racist society in its origins
00:56and in its present condition. That Americans should be balkanized into identity groups
01:01according to race, sex, ethnicity, and other distinguishing characteristics.
01:13Critical race theory just says let's pay attention to what has happened in this country
01:20and how what has happened in this country is continuing to create differential outcomes
01:26so we can become that country that we say we are.
01:29So all over the country beginning early last June, school curricula have changed
01:34completely and become explicitly political and openly racist.
01:45So critical race theory has been around for a while,
01:49since about the 60s and more in that specific language, and it comes out of legal studies.
01:55We're divvying up our entire country by race and teaching our children
01:59that America is evil. It's happening right now.
02:04I don't think we would think we believe that educating the youth and next and leaders of
02:16the future leaders of the country on systemic racism is indoctrination. That's actually
02:21responsible. Hate and division is being taught by evil parents and evil teachers and we need
02:29to stop that. And every educator should be able to have in-depth conversations with their
02:35students about race issues in America because race will not go away. Black Americans fighting
02:40for justice will not go away. We will continue to have this conversation and it brings value
02:46to our education system for our teachers to be able to talk about that.
