00:00Burnout is when you are experiencing physical and mental symptoms from an external stimuli.
00:17So what that may look like is, let's say for instance, if you are someone that is working 9 to 5,
00:22you're doing your job and you come home and you're finding that you are exhausted.
00:27That's going to be an example of a physical symptom.
00:29The mental portion of burnout tends to be lack of concentration, inability to make decisions.
00:36That may also be starting to feel sad, frustrated, irritable.
00:46Some things to look for, specifically if you are someone that is working, is sort of that inability to stop working.
00:56What this may look like is, let's say if you're someone and you're working and usually you would take your lunch break,
01:02but you're just like, I just want to push through. I want to get this done. I want to, I just need to get it done.
01:08I need to get it done because I need to get off at 5 p.m. And so you work through your lunch break.
01:13The reason why I say this may be a sign is because you are now starting to neglect taking care of yourself.
01:21You may start to wake up later. Your sleep may start to get off.
01:25So let's say you're tossing and turning before you were able to fall asleep like that.
01:29Now you're not able to fall asleep, which you may be thinking, but I'm exhausted.
01:33Why can't I fall asleep? Because you're getting to that point of burnout.
01:38Your brain, your body, like they're overly exhausted.
01:41Oh, my goodness. Yes. I think that when when the pandemic started, like if we're being honest, everyone was sort of like, yeah, I don't have to like get dressed.
01:57And I mean, I have on like shorts. I mean, I look good from the waist up.
02:02But, you know, that was sort of like the fun of starting to work from home.
02:07And what sort of then started to happen is we weren't able to compartmentalize our lives.
02:13So as you can see, my background right now, I have my desk in my bedroom.
02:18I can compartmentalize, but it requires more energy, which adds to my mental capacity that's getting filled up.
02:26Then also adds to me being susceptible to burnout much quicker.
02:37But most important thing that you can do for yourself is rest.
02:44I know that a lot of people feel like, well, I'm working from home.
02:48I shouldn't need to take off work. Take the day off.
02:51Matter of fact, take Friday and Monday off. Matter of fact, take a whole week off.
02:55My thing is, it's time to rest your brain. It might not be time to rest physically, but less rest your brain.
03:02Like if any, if you take anything away from this video, it's the importance and the intention of pausing.
03:08Because then when you pause one with your breath, that's that also calms your nervous system.
03:15So when you do that, then it's a matter of asking yourself, is this something that I can do on my own?
03:21And how long has this been going on?
03:24Some people like to sort of take that extended weekend Thursday to Monday.
03:28And you come back and you just feel like it wasn't enough.
03:32That's when it's also recognizing I need to continue to do more.
03:37And then professional help is totally OK.
03:41And it doesn't always have to be a therapist. There's life coaches out there.
03:45You can talk to your primary doctor. You can talk to a dietician.
03:49You can talk to a nutritionist. You can get a therapist should you want to.
03:53But sort of all of those different professions are able to help you in different ways.
03:58Figure out how can I get myself back to a sustainable lifestyle that is healthy and functioning for me as well.
04:10It can go from something burnout to now we may start to look at diagnosis for mental health where it could be depression.
04:18It could be anxiety.
04:20So when you're burnt out, you may come home and you don't want to interact with your family.
04:26You don't want to do anything. You're feeling very just low energy, low motivation.
04:32Where it can start to become depression is you've been feeling this way for an extended period of time.
04:38There's also parental burnout, which oftentimes can lead to like aggressive thoughts.
04:50And it can also lead to irritability that can lead to frustration that can lead to anger because those are situations specifically parental burnout.
05:00You can't stop being a parent, especially with the pandemic that's going on.
05:06Some people have lost their babysitters and don't have that ability to take a break.
05:17People out there are looking for jobs or they're sort of like comfortable in their lives.
05:24I want to say when I say comfortable, I don't mean financially.
05:27I may mean, OK, I'm at home. Maybe I'm watching Netflix.
05:31I can't really quite create a routine.
05:33I don't know what to do with my life right now.
05:35My life doesn't sort of have any purpose.
05:37And that can burn you out as well and take a mental and physical toll on you.
05:43But when we sort of take away the purpose of ourselves, it leaves us in this sort of ambiguous space of feeling like, so what?
05:53Why? What am I here for? What do I do with this?
05:56And that can be overwhelming and it can be taxing on the mental space because then that creates hopelessness, helplessness, worthlessness.
