Uzo Aduba discusses Netflix's 'The Residence', a Shondaland mystery in which she stars as Cordelia Cupp, an eccentric detective tasked with solving a murder at the White House residence.

00:00I don't know, to be honest with you. I've been doing drama for the last couple years.

00:09I'm not quite sure, but it was really nice to get back into a comedic suit,

00:15which I don't feel like I've necessarily been doing recently. So that was great. It was great.

00:22Listen, Cordelia doesn't suffer fools. Cordelia Cupp, that's my character. She does not suffer fools.

00:28She is very to the point, direct. She finds nothing funny about where the circumstance she finds herself

00:38for being here in the White House. And she's very straight to the point with most people,

00:48but in a sort of funny way.

00:51There is no place like this place. It is bigger than you.

00:57Damien, the house is literally bigger than me because that seems obvious.

01:02This could be someone from the staff. It could be a guest. It could be anybody.

01:06This is a disaster.

01:07Are you suggesting that they had something to do with it?

01:10Is he a suspect?

01:11No.

01:12Is he not a suspect because he's not a suspect, or is he not a suspect because you don't believe in suspects?

01:16Yes.

01:17Oh my goodness. That production design, Francois, our designer, did an incredible job. He is amazing.

01:25It did. Really, honestly, we would be in there, and it was breathtaking.

01:29We were on, I think, 11 stages, 13 stages, something like that.

01:34And it was so elaborate, so well-detailed, so gorgeous.

01:41You felt like you were in the White House.

01:43At the beginning, the first couple of days walking on, you kind of didn't want to sit down

01:49because it felt like you were being disrespectful in the White House, and then you're like,

01:53oh wait, this isn't real. But it was amazing.

01:56The White House actually wound up feeling like another character on the show, which was amazing.

02:01But it was amazing. It was great.

02:03We need to train carefully here.

02:06This is the White House.

02:07Did anything unusual happen?

02:09Other than my boss dying?

02:10Other than that, yes.

02:11It's been great. I'm just entering the toddler year, so she just started walking.

02:16She just started talking, and that's been amazing.

02:20It feels like a doll coming to life.

02:24I'm not joking.

02:26I see where the inspiration for Shaki came.

02:31No, it's amazing. It's amazing.

02:33It's the best thing that's ever happened to me.

02:35I love her so much. She's such a light in my life.

02:38And my greatest gift that I feel that I could give her is showing her how to be a full and complete woman in the world

02:47and do everything that she wants to, aspires to be, and to find that and make her happy.
