Former diplomat: US stake in Ukraine could aid peace

00:23is off the table. Yes, there seems to be an idea which also pops up in

00:28slightly different forms. I can see that in principle having a

00:33direct U.S. stake by ownership of assets or presence of their own personnel

00:38on the ground would give them a reason to keep on worrying about what's

00:44happening in Ukraine. But I think that we can take it from President Zelensky

00:48that there is no detailed proposal for that. Zelensky's

00:53version is of course that he has considered how U.S. could help

00:59them keep their nuclear infrastructure going but has insisted that

01:04the Ukrainian state owns the nuclear infrastructure and it's going to stay

01:08that way. So yes, I think in principle having an increased U.S.

01:14stake in Ukrainian peace encourages it to keep on working to achieve that

01:21peace rather than just selling out.
