00:00K Blanchett is saying award shows should no longer be televised out of respect for privacy.
00:06The two-time Oscar-winning actress made a recent appearance on the Matt Rogers and Bowen
00:10Yang podcast, where she suggested that the Oscars should go back to the day when it wasn't
00:15televised.
00:16The conversation started when Blanchett noted that there are so few spaces that you can
00:20go now where you are private, without phones, and the risk of someone recording you.
00:25She noted,
00:26The thing that I loved about the late 80s was going to all of the dance parties in Sydney
00:30for Mardi Gras.
00:31People were just there.
00:32They were so present, you know?
00:33They were just together, collectively, having a great time.
00:36It was non-aggressive.
00:38No one was being recorded.
00:39No one cared what anyone did."
00:41The co-host then explained that people try and lip-read on TikTok to guess what celebrities
00:45are saying to each other at award shows, and it looks like it could be exactly what they're
00:50saying, in a way that's a little bit odd.
00:52Yang added that the lip-reading trend makes Hollywood events feel more treacherous, to
00:56which the Black Bag actress suggested not having it televised at all.
01:01Blanchett noted,
01:02Just have a great party where people can just let go.
01:04I mean, the industry is so scattered and at such a point, which I think potentially could
01:08be exciting or could really be depressing.
01:11But it's at a pivot point, and so we need to gather together and celebrate what it is
01:15that we do, without it having to have any public facing.
