00:00And we really had a desire to build a quantum machine, a thermal machine that was useful.

00:19And we found out that one of the leading technology for quantum computing, the one that used by

00:24Google or IBM, for example, they use the superconducting circuits that needs to stay very cold.

00:31And to initialize their bits, essentially, these modes, they need to be cooled down to

00:37very low temperature.

00:39And so we thought in thermodynamics, we know how to build refrigerators.

00:43And why don't we build a tiny refrigerator and attach to these bits so that they can

00:47get very cold when the computations start.

01:02This is needed because in computation, you need, of course, to be very precise.

01:07And the one basic requirement for any computer is that you know the state of your bits when

01:12you start.

01:14And knowing the state of the bits in this language is equivalent to making them really

01:19cold, which is what we did.

01:21So we can make sure we can start the quantum computer without making an error even before we start.

01:39They can actually come from the very same environment in which a quantum computer is

01:43housed. A quantum computer is itself kept very cold by a big machine, which in some

01:49sense resembles a conventional refrigerator or a fridge.

01:53And so there are already thermal elements at different temperature that can be utilized

01:59to perform the cooling process.
