00:00Former Penang DAP leader P. Ramasamy has dismissed the notion that Gobind Singh Deol's victory

00:08in the DAP Central Executive Committee election last weekend was due to his leadership, popularity

00:15and family legacy.

00:16Instead, he claimed that it was part of a trap set by a rival faction in the party.

00:22Ramasamy said the most surprising outcome of the polls was Gobind's performance in topping

00:27the CEC elections, despite being closely associated with Lim Guan Ying's camp.

00:34Gobind subsequently replaced Lim as DAP's new national chairman.

00:38Previously, FMT reported that political analysts attributed Gobind's resurgence in DAP to a

00:45mix of merit and legacy.

00:47Ramasamy said Gobind's success appears to be the result of a calculated political maneuver

00:53by the faction led by Secretary-General Lok Siw Fok and Deputy Chairman Nga Khor Ming.

00:59He also said that while Gobind retained votes from Lim's faction, it was the backing of

01:04the Lok Nga camp that propelled him to the top.
