Police unveil $3.5M armoured American "BearCats" to tackle high-risk threats

00:22designed for high-risk operations, counter-terrorism and riot control.

00:27Costing $3.5 million, the nine-tonne armoured vehicles, built on a Ford F550 chassis, provide

00:34ballistic protection and advanced communications systems.

00:38For the first time in Australia, one Bearcat includes an extendable ramp to access multi-storey

00:43buildings and aircraft stationed in Sydney for rapid response.

00:47The remaining four vehicles will be strategically deployed in regional New South Wales, reducing

00:51response times to critical incidents.

00:54So we deploy them in support of the tactical operations unit to seizures, barricaded persons,

01:02armed and dangerous offenders, up to and including counter-terrorism incidents.
