00:00With the high-stakes DAP Central Executive Committee election taking place today,
00:07Benang delegates have made one thing clear.
00:09They want stronger representation at the top to ensure the state's interests remain a priority
00:15in national politics.
00:18Some of the delegates surveyed by FMT said that Benang must continue to play a pivotal
00:24role in the party given its legacy in DAP's rise to power.
00:29They said Benang's dominance in national leadership appears to have waned in recent
00:34years, with Selangor and Perak leaders growing in influence.
00:39However, State DAP Youth Deputy Chief Vijay Pillay insisted that Benang will maintain
00:45its influence, with figures like Chow Kwon Yew and Stephen Sim contesting for spots in
00:51the CEC.
00:54Benang DAP Youth Committee member Farid Maulud believes that more Benang representation in
01:00the CEC will help secure real benefits for the state.
01:05He said it would also help DAP expand its influence, particularly in Malay-majority
01:10areas.
01:12Meanwhile, Happy Valley DAP Branch Chief R. Ganesan said the party's leaders appear to
01:19have lost some of their fire since joining the unity government.
01:24He said DAP leaders, who used to fight for the people's rights, have gone soft and
01:29are now too afraid to speak up.
