00:00Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has said he will not cower under the pressure of
00:05threats from the United States. He as well as the Barbados Prime Minister
00:10Mir Motley have publicly stated that they are willing to forfeit their US
00:15visas if that is what it takes to ensure that the sovereignty of their countries
00:20is respected. However today Mr. Dukkaran gave his perspective on how to approach
00:26the situation.
00:27We should not ignore the issue nor do we have to respond on a tit-for-tat approach with the United States President.
00:35That will be a wrong decision. But we should in fact do forcefully stand up in defense of our sovereign rights
00:45and we should do so at the right diplomatic channels and to the right diplomatic processes
00:50most of which will take place behind closed doors in the first instance.
00:55He tells TV6 he does not agree with the way the Trump administration is handling the matter.
01:02We have had a long relationship with Cuba and its medical personnel over the years
01:08and from my understanding it has served us well and I think it is not really appropriate
01:17for someone in the exercise of their sovereign rights to deny the sovereign rights of another country.
01:26With regard to the new UK visa policy he believes it is not a policy issue.
01:32He says it's more of an empirical situation requiring an urgent meeting.
01:38The levels at which it will take place will change depending on the nature of the discussion
01:43but certainly at the level of the Foreign Minister and the level of the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom
01:49an immediate discussion and dialogue should take place.
