00:00Jonathan Majors is speaking publicly for the first time since his domestic violence sentencing
00:04in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. In the exclusive cover story, the embattled magazine
00:09Dreamstar opens up about being abused as a child, his Marvel firing, and his fight for Hollywood
00:14redemption. In December 2023, Majors was convicted of one count of misdemeanor third-degree assault
00:20and one count of second-degree harassment of his ex-girlfriend, British dancer Grace Jabari,
00:25after pleading not guilty. The actor, who played Kang the Conqueror in the MCU,
00:29said he learned that he had been fired by Marvel Studios from a member of his legal team following
00:33the verdict. Majors said,
00:35"...he goes, I'm just gonna tell you now. That way you're not surprised,
00:38and you can start processing it. They fired you. Marvel fired you."
00:42Majors says that after his trial, in addition to a domestic violence program,
00:46he underwent therapy and re-engaged with his pastor, and as a result began to unpack childhood
00:51traumas he had not confronted before. The actor revealed for the first time in the interview that
00:55he experienced sexual abuse as a child. He told THR,
00:59"...I dealt with sexual abuse from both men and women from the time I was nine.
01:03From people who are supposed to look after you, in the absence of a father. I was...up."
01:08The interview comes as Majors' film, Magazine Dreams, is finally being released by Briarcliff
01:12Entertainment on March 21, more than two years after the movie's Sundance premiere.
01:17Concerning his professional future, Majors said,
01:19"...do I hope to make more movies? Absolutely. That is my intention. But that's not my call.
01:24I don't have a studio, and I've given up control."
01:27The story features the voices of prominent Hollywood figures like Matthew McConaughey
01:31advocating for Majors' return to acting. McConaughey, who co-starred with Majors in
01:35the 2018 film White Boy Rick, told THR,
01:38"...I've known and know him as someone who is continuously striving to improve as a human,
01:42a man, and an actor. I believe in him."
01:45But Mara Hooper, one of two of Majors' ex-girlfriends who gave a pre-trial statement
01:48to prosecutors in his trial alleging abuse, isn't sold on Majors' comeback. She told THR,
01:54"...I don't really care that his movie is coming out. What do you get at the end of a 52-week
01:58domestic violence course? Do the victims get a debrief? How could I know if he's changed?
02:03I don't see redemption happening here."
