Activating lightning alerts in the AccuWeather app

Activating lightning alerts in the AccuWeather app helps protect you and your family from lightning risks during severe weather.

00:00We're going to be dealing with a significant severe weather outbreak over the coming days

00:09with severe thunderstorms across parts of the central and eastern United States that

00:13are going to produce many different risks.

00:16Lightning is always a threat to people who are outside.

00:20We have a great tool on the AccuWeather app to help you be aware of lightning risks in

00:23your community.

00:24That's the exclusive lightning alerts and those alerts are issued when lightning is

00:29detected within 15 miles of your location.

00:31You can see on the screen there that a push notification is sent to your device letting

00:36you know that lightning is in the area.

00:37It's a great way to better protect your family and keep them safer.

00:40A great tool on the AccuWeather app.

00:42Let me show you how you activate that.

00:44In the AccuWeather app, of course I'm looking here at Nashville, but I'm going to tap right

00:48up here on the upper left hand part of the app that brings up options.

00:51I'm going to click on settings and then manage notifications.

00:56When you tap on manage notifications, you can see the alerting that you have different

00:59types of alerting and lightning alerts right in through here.

01:03You want to make sure that that's turned on for your current location and any other locations

01:08that you care about.

01:09Also, while you're in that screen, that's a great time to ensure that you've got government

01:12alerts turned on as well for your current location and any other locations that you

01:17care about so that those government warnings can be delivered to your device by AccuWeather

01:23quicker on average than any other source.

01:26This is another tool to help you stay informed about what's happening in your community and

01:30you also can activate through the premium plus service additional alerting from AccuWeather.
