Bus prices are increasing.
00:02
Glasgow's largest bus operator, First Bus, has announced it is raising ticket prices from the 30th of March,
00:08
a move they say to be necessary in meeting inflationary pressures such as rising fuel and maintenance costs.
00:14
They explained they were investing heavily in the running of its network,
00:18
electrifying its Glasgow fleet with even more electric buses due to take the roads in coming weeks.
00:24
Adult day tickets will rise by 30p from £5.60 to £5.90.
00:29
Two-trip tickets will go from £5.20 to £5.60,
00:33
and adult weekly tickets will go from £22.50 to £24.50.
00:38
Single tickets will also increase from £2 to £2.10,
00:42
while a first and limited monthly ticket will rise by 10% from £63 to £69.30.
00:49
First Glasgow operates 100 bus routes covering all areas of the city and beyond.
00:55
Buchanan Bus Station is Scotland's largest bus station,
00:58
with over 1,700 journeys departing each day,
01:02
carrying around 40,000 people to locations across the UK.
01:07
Bus travel is the most popular form of public transport in Scotland,
01:10
with over 75% of all public transport journeys being made by bus.
01:14
Me personally, I've always found First Glasgow buses to be reliable.
01:18
Because of where I live, they are the most convenient form of travel into the city centre,
01:22
though I do find them quite costly, especially compared to an equivalent train journey.
01:27
On visits to Edinburgh over the years, I have always noticed how efficient their bus service is.
01:32
Lothian Buses is owned by the local authorities,
01:35
all single tickets are £2 and day tickets are £5.
01:39
So what do you think about these increases?
01:41
How often do you use the bus, and what is your preferred mode of public transport?
