First Glasgow are increasing their bus fares and here’s why

First Greater Glasgow have announced their increasing the cost of bus tickets in line with inflationary pressures from 30 March. Here’s what it will look like.

00:02Glasgow's largest bus operator, First Bus, has announced it is raising ticket prices from the 30th of March,

00:08a move they say to be necessary in meeting inflationary pressures such as rising fuel and maintenance costs.

00:14They explained they were investing heavily in the running of its network,

00:18electrifying its Glasgow fleet with even more electric buses due to take the roads in coming weeks.

00:24Adult day tickets will rise by 30p from £5.60 to £5.90.

00:29Two-trip tickets will go from £5.20 to £5.60,

00:33and adult weekly tickets will go from £22.50 to £24.50.

00:38Single tickets will also increase from £2 to £2.10,

00:42while a first and limited monthly ticket will rise by 10% from £63 to £69.30.

00:49First Glasgow operates 100 bus routes covering all areas of the city and beyond.

00:55Buchanan Bus Station is Scotland's largest bus station,

00:58with over 1,700 journeys departing each day,

01:02carrying around 40,000 people to locations across the UK.

01:07Bus travel is the most popular form of public transport in Scotland,

01:10with over 75% of all public transport journeys being made by bus.

01:14Me personally, I've always found First Glasgow buses to be reliable.

01:18Because of where I live, they are the most convenient form of travel into the city centre,

01:22though I do find them quite costly, especially compared to an equivalent train journey.

01:27On visits to Edinburgh over the years, I have always noticed how efficient their bus service is.

01:32Lothian Buses is owned by the local authorities,

01:35all single tickets are £2 and day tickets are £5.
