00:12The European Parliamentary Research Service has warned that gang violence is increasing in the EU

00:20due to escalating competition between rival criminal groups.

00:25One of the most concerning trends is the recruitment of minors into organized crime and terrorism groups,

00:33which is prompting countries like Sweden to introduce legislation to wiretap children.

00:39According to the latest Eurostat data, 10% of EU citizens reported experiencing crime, violence or vandalism in their local area,

00:5112.3% if we consider only people at risk of poverty in general,

00:58the highest rates of people reporting local violence were found in Greece 20.9%,

01:06the Netherlands 16.7%, Bulgaria, France, Spain and Belgium.

01:15On the other end of the spectrum, Croatia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Estonia emerged as the safest countries,

01:25all reporting local crime rates below 5%.
