00:00The Department of Information and Communications plans to reform this free Wi-Fi program to save on the cost.
00:09This is Harley Valbuena of PTV in Balitang Pambansa. Harley?
00:15Alan, the Department of Information and Communications Technology plans to change their free Wi-Fi program.
00:25According to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,
00:28this is the practical cost of Php 1 billion for the program.
00:34The free Wi-Fi program seems to be not sustainable
00:37because right now we have only 7,000 locations and we're spending Php 6.5 billion.
00:42The President directed us to look for other alternatives that will make this program sustainable
00:47because it's helping a lot of people.
01:04According to this, the President also ordered the Php 5 billion for the SIM card of Bayan Project
01:12while the subsidy will be given through free 25GB internet subscriptions for students in Klau, Telco Towers.
01:23At the time that the free Wi-Fi program is overhauled,
01:28the DICP said that from the current 7,000 locations,
01:32up to 20,000 locations will be able to access free Wi-Fi.
01:40Alan, at the moment, free Wi-Fi sites are being used in public schools and state universities,
01:46med colleges, remote barangays, municipal government buildings, public health facilities,
01:53geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas, and indigenous people's communities.
01:59Alan?
02:02Thank you very much, Harley Balbuena of PTV.
