A Chinese national, who sustained serious injuries when the ceiling of a restaurant collapsed in Kota Kinabalu, had to have her left leg amputated.  The woman’s husband, who requested not to be named, confirmed that doctors could not save her leg and amputation had to be done immediately. 00:07following serious injuries sustained when a restaurant ceiling collapsed last Friday.

00:12Eyewitness footage showed the aftermath of the incident.

00:16The woman's husband, who requested anonymity, confirmed that doctors were unable to save

00:22his wife's leg and had to perform immediate amputation.

00:26He added that his wife requires another surgery as she had also injured her spine and that

00:32doctors would be discussing a treatment plan with them.

00:36The couple was dining at a Chinese halal restaurant operated by their son in the Segama commercial

00:41area of the city's central business district.

00:44The son has been running the restaurant at the rented premises for the past two years.

00:50The man said his son was in discussions with the building owner but declined to comment

00:55further on the incident, which involved the collapse of flooring from the storey above.

01:00According to sources, the tenant had previously complained about water leaks and falling concrete

01:05pieces from the ceiling, which forms the floor of the first floor units.

01:10Residents living in units above the restaurant have been evacuated while authorities investigate
