Communities in southeast Queensland and northern NSW brace for tropical Cyclone Alfred

Some residents are evacuating ahead of the cyclone, while others are sticking it out and preparing their homes for destructive winds and heavy rainfall. As they gear up for what's to come, there's a mix of emotions.

00:00I actually had to move out of my house and move in with a friend because I'm at high

00:05risk from winds and trees landing on my place.

00:07Other than that, at my friend's house we're just stocking up on the goods, getting power

00:11banks and everything like that in case we do lose power and then, yeah, seeing what

00:14happens.

00:15Well, I cleaned the guttering and did some, got some dog food from the shops and just

00:22plastic buckets and things like that that were around the house.

00:25We just picked up anything plastic that could blow away.

00:28We're from the States, we live close to the Gulf and we're familiar with hurricanes

00:33and tropical storms of the like, so we're prepared, but we're a little nervous.

00:39You can't help but be a little nervous, right?

00:40Check it one day at a time actually, yeah, yeah.

00:43We just keep on checking the news and, yeah, just pray for the best.

00:48Just having some spare water batteries and lights just in case the power goes out.

00:51Well, we're elevated a little bit above the beach and things like that, so no, we're

00:56pretty good.

00:57Bought a few extra, you know, eggs and things like that.
