00:00Bosnia's state-level court reached a verdict against Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik,

00:09sentencing him to one year in prison and barring him from politics for six years.

00:15Dodik, who serves as president of the Serb-majority region within the country, was found guilty

00:22of criminal conduct after defying the decisions of an international peace envoy sent to the

00:28nation.

00:56Dodik pushed through two laws adopted by the Serb-majority region's parliament related

01:01to preventing the implementation of state-level constitutional court rulings.

01:07The ruling follows more than a year of judicial proceedings in which Dodik and Milos Lukic,

01:13director of the official Gazette of Republika Srpska, were prosecuted for failing to implement

01:18decisions issued by the high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kristian Schmidt.

01:25Lukic, in this process, has been acquitted of all charges.

01:29As this is a first instance ruling, both defendants had the right to appeal.
