House Democrats, union leaders protest cuts in healthcare, research
Small groups of demonstrators gathered across parts of Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, February 25, to protest proposed tax cuts and spending cuts aimed at lashing federal spending, reducing the size of the federal workforce, and dismantling large parts of the US government.
House Democrats, led by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, gathered at the steps of the US Capitol ahead of a key vote on a budget framework that would be a first step toward enacting President Donald Trump's tax-cut and border agenda. Jeffries said his party would not vote for "this reckless Republican budget" that he said included the "largest Medicaid cut in American history."
Trump's $4.5 trillion tax-cut plan would also fund the deportation of migrants living in the U.S. illegally, tighten border security, energy deregulation and military spending.
