00:00Looking at Joe Gomez specifically, we've looked at a few Liverpool players across our talks
00:09with the likes of Darwin Nunes, Diogo Jota as well, these sort of players who have had
00:15good spells and really captured the liking of the fans at times, but you just feel like
00:21maybe they could have gone on to more and maybe they could have achieved a little bit
00:25more in their time.
00:26Joe Gomez specifically, let's just start with looking at his future at the club. Obviously,
00:30he's been marred by a lot of injuries in his time. What do you make of his time at the
00:36club?
00:37Well, he's currently Liverpool's longest-serving first-team member, which is an absolute credit
00:43to him. He arrived from Charlton Athletic. Maybe Liverpool didn't think he was out for
00:49the career that he has had because sometimes it's a gamble when you go and sign these sorts
00:54of players, but fair play to Gomez. He's come and established himself as a regular
01:00member of the squad. He was Pedro van Dijk's regular parter in that Premier League title
01:05win season. Obviously, he had the serious injury after that. Since then, it's been difficult
01:12for him in terms of minutes. He's always been a highly valued asset at the club. There's
01:20always been interest, but Liverpool have battered that away because they know that he's a very
01:26capable centre-half and he can cover all four positions across the back line. Last season,
01:34it was somewhat of a renaissance for him because he didn't play a lot in his favourous position
01:39centrally, but he played a lot at right-back and then he had to cover at left-back when
01:43Andy Robertson cost a similar cast without injuries and ended up winning himself a spot
01:48in the England squad for the Euros. Looking at the season, thinking, right, can he kick
01:52on again? He had to wait for his opportunity to come back from the Euros and then Canarty
01:59thrust himself in with van Dijk. When Canarty was injured, Gomez was doing really well and
02:04he picked up the hamstring injury. He's fourth-traced centre-back. He's what now? 27-ish, 28. Maybe
02:14there were talks about him maybe going to Newcastle last summer. I dare say there will be
02:18a lot of suitors if he's available on the market. Liverpool might look at him and think,
02:25can we get someone in for a similar price who's younger, who we can develop? We see it as a really
02:32pivotal path for our squad going forward. Did he shake Gomez's hand and say, look,
02:37you're a fantastic servant, go and play regular football elsewhere and we hope it goes well for
02:42you? It might be a decision for our squad to make in the summer. As things stand, he's under
02:48contract and Liverpool won't be selling him cheap if they want to sell him at all because
02:54he is a capable player and can cover a lot of positions.
