00:00The Department of Social Welfare and Development launched the Apuko program,

00:05a story of grandparents guiding the youth in the Haven for the Elderly in Tanay, Rizal.

00:11Noel Talacay has the story.

00:18Lolo Jaime is an expert in storytelling.

00:22To the children from a daycare center in Tanay, Rizal,

00:26he shared a children's story about a little lizard.

00:31It's good to listen to what the parents are saying.

00:35It's a good lesson for the children.

00:40It's a game for the children to answer Lolo Jaime's questions.

00:51According to the parents of one of the children,

00:55the role of grandparents in raising a child will not be forgiven.

01:00It's important because when they grow up,

01:06they will have an understanding that the older children should be respected.

01:13The so-called activity in the Haven for the Elderly in Tanay, Rizal,

01:17is part of the launch of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, or DSWD,

01:22which is a program where grandparents guide the youth.

01:28It's a way for the youth to interact and learn from their grandparents.

01:37There are many important knowledge, wisdom, and good habits.

01:45One of the activities in the project is the storytelling of grandparents to the youth.

01:52This is also part of the grandchildren's program,

01:54which will be held in different parts of the country by local government units.

01:59We plan to expand the implementation of this program

02:04with the help of our local government units,

02:08with the help of our children's centers,

02:14and with the help of our field offices of DSWD throughout the country.

02:18Aside from storytelling, there is also an interactive workshop

02:21for grandparents and youth called Legacy Labs.

02:25The program is part of the week-long celebration of the 74th anniversary of DSWD

02:32with the theme, Every Family Matters in the New Philippines.
