00:00Guy Pearce is opening up about the unpleasant experience he endured while previously working
00:05with Kevin Spacey. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg on a new episode of
00:10his Awards Chatter podcast, Pearce, who is Oscar-nominated for his work in Brady Corbett's
00:15The Brutalist, got choked up while discussing for the first time at length about working with
00:19Spacey on the 1997 film L.A. Confidential. Pearce previously called Spacey a handsy guy
00:25in an Australian talk show in 2018, though he quickly clarified his comments.
00:30Pearce is now further opening up, but noted how he was reluctant to use the word victim,
00:35even though I probably was a victim to a degree. I was certainly not a victim by
00:39any means to the extent that other people have been to sexual predators.
00:43Pearce initially responded to Spacey's alleged advances on set by brushing it off.
00:47I was sort of scared of Kevin because he's quite an aggressive man. He's extremely charming and
00:51brilliant at what he does. Really impressive. But I was young and susceptible, and he targeted me,
00:56no question. He recalled telling his then-wife, the only days I feel safe are the days when Simon
01:02Baker is on set because I'm dumped like a hot potato and Kevin focuses on Simon because he was
01:07ten times prettier than I am. It wasn't until decades later that Pearce was able to fully
01:11process what happened, when in the midst of the Me Too movement, veteran actor Anthony Rapp came
01:16forward with claims that Spacey made sexual advances at a party in New York in 1986 when
01:22he was 14. Pearce said he caught the headlines. I was in London working on something and I heard
01:27the reports and I broke down and sobbed and I couldn't stop. I think it really dawned on me
01:31the impact that had occurred and how I sort of brushed it off. That was a really incredible
01:36wake-up call. Pearce also noted that he has since had a couple of confrontations with Kevin
01:40that got ugly. I don't want him to get away with what he gets away with.
